For Netflix subscribers gripped by the unresolved mystery of the 2025 docuseries Amy Bradley Is Missing, The Woman in Cabin 10 couldn’t be a more ideal encore. In what serves as a cinematic parallel to the captivating Amy Bradley saga, Keira Knightley stars in The Woman in Cabin 10, a 90-minute Netflix thriller centered on a woman who suddenly vanishes from a luxury cruise liner without a trace.
Knightley plays a journalist and the sole witness to the woman’s disappearance, and works to discover the truth and convince others that something suspicious occurred. With a terrific ensemble cast that includes Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, Kaya Scodelario, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Ajala, and David Morrissey, The Woman in Cabin 10 released on Netflix on October 10, 2025. All aboard.
‘The Woman In Cabin 10’s Familiar Premise, Explained
Based on the 2016 bestselling novel of the same name by Ruth Ware, The Woman in Cabin 10 is a psychological thriller that boasts a familiar premise. Directed by first-time filmmaker Simon Stone, the Netflix original movie stars Keira Knightley as Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a travel writer invited to cover the inaugural voyage of the luxury cruise liner Aurora Borealis. The plot thickens when Lo witnesses a female passenger being thrown overboard by a mysterious perpetrator at night.
When Lo tells the authorities what she witnessed, no one believes her. The crew accounts for every passenger, making it seem as though nobody onboard has disappeared. It’s essentially the same premise as the 2005 airplane thriller Flightplan, in which the young daughter of Jodie Foster’s character suddenly vanishes from a jetliner without a trace. In what becomes a tense tale of he-said-she-said, Lo must prove she is telling the truth and continues to investigate the woman’s disappearance independently.
Despite its cinematic parallels, Ruth Ware insists the story is still relevant 10 years after it was published, telling Netflix TUDUM:
“The fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately. Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is. Too many people know what that feels like, and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”
Indeed, the film’s topical themes pit objective facts against subjective truth. In the self-journaling age of social media, people shape their views through “their truth” rather than adhering to what’s been scientifically proven. With Lo, The Woman in Cabin 10 attempts to poke holes in that kind of provincial prejudice, albeit in the guise of a thrilling mystery.
How ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ Mirrors ‘Amy Bradley Is Missing’
Released on July 16, 2025, Amy Bradley Is Missing is an absorbing Netflix original true-crime docuseries featuring three episodes. The shocking story chronicles the Bradleys, an American family that went on vacation aboard the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas in March 1998. On March 24th, en route to Curaçao, the 23-year-old Amy Bradley suddenly vanished from the boat thirty minutes after her father last saw her sleeping on a deck chair.
Adding to the mystery, an automated door locking system logged Amy returning to her cabin at 3:40 AM after a long night of dancing in the boat’s ballroom. Amy’s father, Ron, last saw Amy asleep on the deck outside her cabin at 5:30 AM. By 6:00 AM, Bradley was no longer aboard the ship. A widespread search and international investigation ensued to locate Amy, who was never found and has remained missing since 1998.
One of the theories advanced in the docuseries is that Amy willingly deboarded the boat in Curaçao to procure drugs and enjoy the local nightlife. Another theory suggests that Amy was forced off the ship by unknown assailants, trafficked, and consigned to a life of prostitution in the Caribbean. Several convincing eyewitnesses claim to have spotted Amy on the Caribbean islands and as far as San Francisco, but her identity has never been corroborated.
For almost 30 years, the Bradley family has been left to wonder what happened to Amy, a talented athlete with a bright future ahead at the time of her disappearance. It’s one of the saddest and most shocking tragedies featured in a Netflix docuseries, with a similar premise now dramatized with superb actors in The Woman in Cabin 10.
Who Else Stars in ‘The Woman in Cabin 10?’
For a mysterious thriller in which every character becomes a suspect, it’s worth meeting the passengers aboard the Aurora Borealis in The Woman in Cabin 10. Oscar-nominee Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) plays ultra-wealthy business entrepreneur Richard Bullmer; Hannah Waddingham (The Fall Guy) portrays the gossip monger Heidi; Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) plays social media influencer Grace; David Ajala (The Dark Knight) portrays fellow journalist and Lo’s main ally Ben; Art Malik (True Lies) plays Dr. Robert Mehta; and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) plays the affluent socialite Thomas Weatherly, who had a suspicious encounter with Carrie.
As Lo susses who to trust and who not to, she also encounters passengers named Adam (Daniel Ings), Danny Tyler (Paul Kaye), Lars Jensen (Christopher Rygh), Captain Addis (John Macmillan), and Richard’s wife, Annie Bullmer (Lisa Loven Kongsli). For Ruth Ware, one of the most rewarding aspects of having her novel adapted into a Netflix series is the tremendous cast, adding:
“I think it would have to be either the cast, which is truly amazing, or just the experience of seeing scenes and conversations I’ve dreamt up in my spare room almost a decade ago play out in real life. It’s a very strange feeling — almost like a superpower.”
