So… we finally got Roman Sinquerra’s backpack.

After 15 years of radio silence, breadcrumbs are suddenly falling into Morgan Gillory’s lap, and I’m yelling at my screen like it’s a playoff game.

Just as the past begins to resurface, in strides the LAPD’s newest (and shadiest) addition to High Potential Season 2: Captain Wagner, played by Steve Howey with the perfect dose of smug.

    (Disney/Mitch Haaseth)

As someone who hasn’t missed a single Tuesday night with this show, let me be blunt: I don’t trust this man.

There’s something off about him. The timing. The attitude. The weird fixation on Morgan.

And if the show’s setting him up for what I think they are… we might be staring down the most dangerous threat yet.

Captain Wagner in High Potential Season 2 Isn’t Just New; He’s a Problem

Wagner rubbed me the wrong way from the second he opened his mouth.

First of all, he took a job that should’ve gone to Selena. Second, he’s been all up in Major Crimes since his arrival, like he owns the place.

Third, and this is what really sets off the alarm bells, he’s laser-focused on Morgan. Not in the “wow, she’s brilliant” kind of way. No!

He’s asking personal questions about her, and practically tailing her every move.

He even tried to nudge Daphne into a promotion that reeks of manipulation. Who does that in week one?

Not to mention, he comes from a high-powered police family, and something about his smug confidence just screams: I’ve gotten away with things you wouldn’t believe.

Now, I’m not saying he’s a villain just yet, but I’ve watched enough procedurals to know when someone is playing the long con.

High Potential Season 2 Is Dropping Clues and Wagner’s Name Is All Over Them

    (Disney/Mitch Haaseth)

Let’s connect the dots? Roman was working with a now-dead FBI agent when he disappeared.

He went underground because someone in law enforcement betrayed him. That’s not a theory anymore. That’s canon.

Arthur still doesn’t trust Morgan completely because of her police ties.

And now that Wagner’s conveniently landed a position of power and is shadowing Morgan like he’s playing a game of psychological chess? Oh, come on!

Also, Wagner’s father retired five years after Roman went missing.

Are we supposed to pretend that’s not suspicious timing in High Potential Season 2?

Whether it was Wagner or his dad who pushed Roman into the wind, the Sinquerra mystery seems to be circling the Wagner name like a hawk ready to dive.

This is High Potential’s chance to deliver a procedural gut punch, and I think they’re setting up Wagner as the one to do it.

He’s Giving Nick Armstrong Vibes (and That’s Not a Compliment)

Listen, I’ve been burned before. The Rookie had Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau).

9-1-1 had Jonah Greenway. And now, High Potential might be pulling the same “bad guy in a badge” twist.

The trick is always the same: introduce the character as a friend or colleague. Maybe even stir up a romance?

Then, bam. A brutal betrayal that reshapes the protagonist’s arc. And Morgan? She takes it personally.

She’s built her life on protecting people. Solving crimes is her safe place.

If Wagner is behind Roman’s disappearance, it won’t just shatter her; it could break her trust in the job entirely.

I’m not ready for that emotional fallout… but I kind of want to see it.

What Makes High Potential So Different Right Now?

Honestly, what started as a quirky procedural has matured into one of the smartest dramas on network TV.

I know, bold statement, but Season 2 is weaving personal pain, power plays, and plot precision better than most prestige crime shows.

    (Disney/Mitch Haaseth)

Roman’s absence was always mysterious, but now it feels dangerous. Wagner isn’t just a new character; he could be the show’s season-defining villain.

And that’s exactly what we need. Not another throwaway case or vanishing guest star, but a threat with real teeth.

And if Wagner’s the guy who made Morgan a single mom? Whew. The internet will explode, and I’ll be first in the reaction thread, tossing emojis like confetti.

So what do you think? Drop your wildest theories in the comments!
