What To Know
- Is Morgan’s new love interest on High Potential really a criminal as she suspects?
- Showrunner Todd Harthan offers insight into Aiden Turner’s character, Rhys.
- Plus, we theorize what Rhys’s true intentions could be.
High Potential may be on a winter hiatus, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate where Morgan’s (Kaitlin Olson) story is heading after that midseason finale cliffhanger.
As fans will recall, she became entangled with Rhys (Aiden Turner), an art dealer who was working on the same investigation as her, until she began to suspect he might be responsible for the crime of theft. To add insult to injury, the high-IQ LAPD consultant came to the realization about Rhys’s potential criminal involvement amid a steamy makeout session.
But is he really a criminal? “You’ll see in the premiere next year that not everything is as it seems,” showrunner Todd Harthan teased to TV Insider following the most recent episode before the January 6, 2026, return. “It certainly feels like this guy is the guy, but there are some things coming that are going to really make Morgan go, ‘Wait, is he a criminal?’” Harthan added.

Morgan’s suspicions of Rhys were raised when she spotted some scars on him in the mirror of the hotel room where their hookup was just kicking off. “Lots of people have scars, and is it a coincidence? We’re going to play with all those elements in the premiere,” Harthan promised. “And I think the finish is super surprising in the second part.”
If Rhys isn’t guilty of the crime Morgan suspects, does that mean that she has a potential future with him? “You have to wait and see, but he was wonderful and they had great chemistry, and we’ve been very fortunate [to have] our pick of really amazing actors,” Harthan noted of Turner’s addition to the show.
Of course, fans are eager to see the will-they-won’t-they situation progress between Morgan and her partner, Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). It seems they’ll have to wait a little longer for that potential to unfold. In the meantime, we can’t help but wonder if Morgan’s suspicions will be proven true. As fans may recall, the case she was working on involved a piece of art being stolen from a gallery, where the piece was on loan from an art collector couple. But the painting had apparently been stolen years prior amid wartime chaos.
Morgan was conflicted about who she believed the painting belonged with, and so, if Rhys had stolen the piece, is it possible his motivation could align with hers? We’ll have to tune in to find out. Let us know your theories in the comments section below, and stay tuned for updates as we gear up for Season 2’s return in the new year.
