Henry Cavill has provided an update on his Highlander injury, with the actor sharing images of himself undergoing rehab. The actor, who suffered the injury while training for John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s long-awaited reboot of the 80s action fantasy fan-favorite, took to Instagram to share the images, which show him looking fighting fit and sporting long hair as he trains to overcome this setback and transform into the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod.
Once again showing off his nerdy credentials, Cavill referenced the RPG video game Planescape: Torment in a caption alongside the images, which you can check out below. “Endure. In enduring, grow strong,” the actor wrote before attributing the quote to Planescape: Torment character “Dak’kon.” The images show Cavill back in the gym (does he ever leave?) and undergoing physiotherapy to get him back into action as quickly as possible.
While it has not yet been confirmed, it is expected that Cavill’s injury will push production on Highlander back to early next year. This is just the latest setback for the long-awaited Highlander reboot, which has been in the works since as far back as 2008. The reboot will likely follow a similar plot to the 1986 original, which centers on swordsman Connor MacLeod as he discovers that he is one of a number of immortal warriors who can be killed only by beheading. After living somewhat peacefully for several centuries, MacLeod settles in New York City and is soon dragged back onto the battlefield when his greatest enemy returns to kill him.
‘Highlander’ Has Amassed a Prize Cast
With John Wick’s Chad Stahelski at the helm, Highlander has amassed an all-star cast alongside Henry Cavill. The former Superman will reunite with his Man of Steel co-star Russell Crowe, who is expected to play the mentor character portrayed in the original by Sean Connery. The rest of the cast includes Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Max Zhang, and Jeremy Irons.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista is expected to play the main villain of the piece, fellow immortal warrior The Kurgan, with the actor and action star having previously teased that the Highlander reboot will impress audiences with both its script and “action on par” with the exploits of Keanu Reeves’ Baba Yaga…
“I was so blown away by the script because, without saying too much, this is such a great reboot. We’re still paying tribute and giving a nod to the original, but making it new and fresh and exciting, and also just universe-building. It’s just so much bigger than the original. The action is on par with John Wick. I’m afraid I’m going to say too much.”
Outside the world of Highlander, Henry Cavill has several other major projects currently in the pipeline, including the Guy Ritchie action thriller In the Grey, the live-action adaptation of Voltron, and his planned series based on the popular miniature wargame Warhammer 40,000.
