The 2026 Grammys revealed their nominations on Friday, including the finalists for Best Alternative Music Album.
The Cure have nabbed a nomination for their glorious comeback effort Songs of a Lost World, which served as the group’s first release of all-new material in 16 years. The Cure haven’t been nominated for a Grammy since 2001, when they received a Best Alternative Album nod for their 2000 effort Bloodflowers.
Hayley Williams has also been nominated for third solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, which arrived just two days before the 2026 Grammys’ eligibility period ended on August 30th, 2025. Bon Iver also picked up a nomination for his album SABLE, fABLE, while Wet Leg continue their Grammys streak with a nomination for their sophomore record, moisturizer.

Rounding out the nominees is a relatively unusual name: Tyler, the Creator is nominated for DON’T TAP THE GLASS, his surprise-released July 2025 LP. It’s a big day overall for Tyler, as he also scored Album of the Year, Rap Album of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Album Cover nominations.
The Grammy organization has their own definition of alternative (updated circa 2019), with the award commemorating music that “embraces attributes of progression and innovation in both the music and attitudes associated with it.” While it’s “often a less intense version of rock, or a more intense version of pop,” the criteria center around an album’s originality and eclectic nature. Last year, St. Vincent won the prize for All Born Screaming.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to go down on February 1st, 2026 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, airing live on CBS and Paramount+. See a full list of the nominees in all major categories here.
