Who would have guessed that Georgie and Ruben working together would be such a disaster?
Besides everyone, that is.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 1 offered a conflict that was somewhat predictable, but the way it played out wasn’t.
Georgie and Ruben’s Conflict Ties In To Georgie’s Appearance on Big Bang Theory
When Georgie visited Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, he was a successful businessman, though not so great in the romance department.
He had three marriages under his belt and a chain of successful tire shops — and they were called Dr. Tire.
Ruben poo-pooed that name and most of Georgie’s ideas, but obviously, he was wrong, at least when it came to the Dr. Tire brand.
It was understandable why Ruben was so aggravated, though.
Georgie wasn’t making any plans beyond what he felt like at the moment, and Ruben was worried that the two of them would lose their collateral if the business went belly-up.
Georgie is a big-vision guy who needs someone to help him make his ideas practical, but Ruben leans too much in the other direction, so of course, the two are going to clash constantly.
That Kind of Problem Is Great For Comedy…
…but for the most part, the dialogue between Ruben and Georgie wasn’t all that funny.
I liked Ruben insisting business was built on numbers while Georgie insisted on going by his instincts, though.

That exchange was amusing while also making it clear where each of these men stood.
However, for the most part, Georgie and Ruben’s arguments were the same as when they were both employees, and I never enjoyed their dynamic in the first place.
Their final decision to run a race to decide on the use of an automated inventory system was silly, but at least it was a bit more original than their sniping.
That Race Worked Perfectly With Jim’s Joyride Though
Jim’s decision to take the Mustang out was the perfect metaphor for his feelings about being retired.
He wanted to have a nice, relaxing ride, but instead, his hat flew off, he couldn’t get the convertible top down, and the car eventually broke down.
So much for enjoying retirement, eh?
Jim’s real retirement wasn’t all it was cracked up to be either.
He finished the chores he’d planned in about five seconds and then didn’t know what to do with himself, though I don’t know why he didn’t go to the park with Mandy and CeeCee in the first place.
It was almost as if he couldn’t think of anything to do when something was staring him right in the face.
Jim’s ride through town while the guys were running was the funniest sequence in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 1.
I knew that he would cross paths with them somehow and was half expecting him to have to slam on his brakes to avoid running them over.
I’m glad that didn’t happen, but what did was hilarious.

Those two were so busy trying to win their race that they didn’t realize Jim and his broken-down car were around the corner — plus they left the store unmanned, so Jim couldn’t get any help.
That turn of events almost made up for how ridiculous the race was. As Mandy said later, they can’t make all their business decisions that way.
Could Both Marriages Be In Trouble This Season?
Jim’s retirement might drive Audrey up the wall.
He’s already having a hard time finding anything to do, and the more he’s around, the more likely it is that he and Audrey will fight.
They seem like a solid couple, but Audrey is set in her ways and won’t appreciate Jim throwing monkey wrenches into her daily plans.
Plus, we already know that she hates it when he drinks, and he’s doing more of that now that he has nothing else going on.
As for Georgie and Mandy, so far they’re managing well, but Georgie’s long hours at the tire shop are bound to take a toll on the marriage.
When Mandy and Georgie have fought, it’s generally been about Mandy wanting to restart her career or have money of her own, so if she tries to pursue her weather-girl career while Georgie is working 24/7, it’ll be a big problem for them.
The writers have already said that this season will feature more cracks in Georgie and Mandy’s foundation.
The tire shop will undoubtedly be part of that, and the preview for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 2 had Mandy discovering she’s a local celebrity due to being the weather girl, so that will likely spark conflict.
Hopefully, we’ll have some solid stories for Connor, too.
It always annoys me when he doesn’t get anything to do except stand in the corner of the kitchen making snarky comments.
