The next Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will be premiering next month on HBO, with the network revealing an all-new look at the project with a full-length trailer. This isn’t our first look at the series, as a teaser debuted back in October, though this new trailer offers more insight into the extended world outside of our main characters, and even includes some teases of familiar relatives. While some elements of this trailer might be familiar, the new series sets itself apart from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon by abandoning some of the more fantastical elements of Westeros.
HBO describes the series:
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall while Dexter Sol Ansell stars as Egg. Also starring in the new series are Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.
What to Expect From the ‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-off
One difference between the original Game of Thrones TV show and the first prequel House of the Dragon is that, as implied by the title, the series unfolded at a time in which dragons were commonplace, as compared to the first series in which they were much more rare. The nature of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms means that, not only will we be avoiding magic and monsters, the series won’t be delivering an epic scale of combat and war.
The filmmakers behind the new series are aiming to differentiate themselves so much from the other two shows, we even get a tonally different opening credits scene, which showrunner Ira Parker previously broke down to Entertainment Weekly:
“All decisions came down to Dunk, trying to channel the type of person he is into every aspect of this show, even the title sequence. The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That’s not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn’t have a lot of flash to him.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to premiere on HBO on Jan. 18, 2026 and has already been renewed for a second season.
