Before Season 2 of Fallout transports us to New Vegas this December, fans of the series are checking out Ella Purnell’s other killer show. Purnell stole the show as Lucy in Fallout, a naive optimist (who could give Ted Lasso a run for his money) who must venture out into the decimated Wasteland of America centuries after nuclear war destroyed the world. Purnell was already a star, thanks to the likes of Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and the hit series Yellowjackets. But Fallout took her career to the next level. However, in Fallout, she also shared the limelight with Walton Goggins (The Ghoul) and Aaron Moten (Maximus). For those wanting to see Purnell shine on her own, the actress’s 2025 thriller, Sweetpea, is making a comeback on streaming.
Sweetpea is streaming exclusively on Starz, and fans appear to be digging back into the seven-episode thriller. Sweetpea is currently the 10th most popular series on Starz this week, with Power Book IV: Force currently dominating in the top spot. Sweetpea is based on the crime novel series by CJ Skuse. In the show, Purnell plays Rhiannon Lewis, who, to put it bluntly, is kind of pathetic. She’s a doormouse at work, she has no friends, and, when her father dies, she might lose his house when her sister wants to sell her half. But when she reaches her breaking point, she brings her past trauma, especially the cruel bullying from her sister’s friends, to the forefront and enacts revenge, gaining a twisted sense of self-confidence in the process. The official synopsis reads:
“Rhiannon Lewis doesn’t make much of an impression — people walk past her without a second glance. That is until she is pushed over the edge and loses control. Rhiannon’s life transforms, but can she keep her killer secret?”
Sweetpea was a decent hit when it debuted in October 2024. The score earned strong reviews, boasting an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were slightly more critical, although it still holds a decent user rating of 62%. “Sweetpea is insane. Binged in one day and no regrets,” wrote one user in a five-star review. As well as its killer plot, audiences also loved Rhiannon as a character, like this viewer, who penned, “Even though this show has you looking over the killer’s shoulder at every moment — through every sinister idea — you can’t help but realize that Rhiannon’s heart might be just as big as it is cold.”
‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 Is Coming
Following Sweetpea‘s success on Starz in 2024, fans of CJ Skuse’s novels were praying that the rest of the books would be adapted, especially after the cliffhanger ending to Season 1. Thankfully, those prayers have been answered.
Season 2 of Sweetpea is officially in development at Starz. In fact, the term “in development” might be a bit of an understatement, as the series actually began shooting inthe Summer of this year. Season 2 hasn’t received any other major updates yet. However, we’re expecting the new season to drop sometime in early 2027, if not late 2026.
