November is here, and cinema and TV fans should know what that means: Christmas specials are about to flood the streaming platforms. Of course, Netflix is no exception this month, releasing several new holiday-themed originals, including the obligatory steamy rom-coms. Yet for those not ready to embrace winter, November brings new titles and the long-awaited season of a hit show, making nights in from the cold more inviting.

‘Death by Lightning’ (Limited Series)
Coming to Netflix on November 6
For history buffs and fans of engaging drama, Death by Lightning recounts the remarkable life of President James A. Garfield, tracing his rise from poverty to the presidency and his tragic death at the hands of Charles J. Guiteau. The series stars Michael Shannon as President Garfield and Matthew Macfadyen as Guiteau. The series is created by Mike Makowsky, who previously worked on the fan-favorite Netflix series Beef.
Based on the novel Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard, Death by Lightning aims to be a complementary blend of politics, crime, and biography, illuminating a lesser-celebrated presidential figure. The limited series focuses particularly on corruption, positioning Death by Lightning to resonate with a wide range of audiences. The phenomenal casting, including Michael Shannon in the lead role, and the polished visual style, will make this must-watch TV for many. Death by Lightning is streaming on Netflix starting on November 6, 2025.

‘Frankenstein’
Coming to Netflix on November 7
With few details yet revealed about how exactly 2025’s Frankenstein will bring a new angle to the familiar story, fans of Universal Monsters and classic horror are already thrilled to see Dr. Victor Frankenstein and his monster rise again on a prominent streaming platform. The film features a phenomenal cast led by Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as his ghastly, misunderstood creation.
Of course, the major draw will be Guillermo del Toro helming the project as director and writer. Arguably the greatest creative working in the dark fantasy genre today, this marks his third original film for Netflix, with a writing credit on Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans and his wonderfully gothic re-imagining of a classic in 2022’s Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. Fans don’t have to wait that long, as Frankenstein will be streaming on Netflix starting on November 7, 2025.

‘The Beast in Me’ (Limited Series)
Coming to Netflix on November 13
The Beast in Me follows acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes), who retreats from the public eye after her husband’s death leaves her with writer’s block and her grief. It is at her retreat home that she soon becomes fascinated with another neighbor who moves in, Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a real-estate agent marred in controversy for having been previously suspected of murdering his wife. She begins investigating him to reignite her creative spark, but soon becomes entangled in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
The Beast in Me is a new Netflix original already generating buzz and has the potential to become a must-watch when it premieres. Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys are the perfect pairing to lay the groundwork for the psychological thriller, and showrunner Howard Gordon brings experience from Homeland. For many, Danes and Gordon working together again on a project is reason enough to watch. The Beast in Me will be available to stream on November 13, 2025.

‘Train Dreams’
Coming to Netflix on November 21
Train Dreams follows Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton), a logger and railway worker in the early-20th-century Pacific Northwest who has known no other life, having been abandoned as a kid and forced into work to survive. Robert uses his hard-earned labor to start a family with Gladys (Felicity Jones) during a boom in the industry. However, after tragedy strikes and Robert’s visions of a happy family go up in flames, he struggles to find himself again in an ever-evolving world.
Based on the highly regarded novella of the same name by Denis Johnson, Train Dreams is positioned to be an unforgettable drama about loss, family, and duty. The trailer already showcases director Clint Bentley’s immersive approach, capturing the same poetic beauty that made the novel so acclaimed. The early critical response has been phenomenal, with Netflix also placing the movie in theaters on November 7, for a limited run before it hits its platform on November 21, 2025.

‘Stranger Things’ (Season 5 — Volume 1)
Coming to Netflix on November 26
For Stranger Things fans, the start of Season 5 is bittersweet. The series resumes after the fall of 1987, when the town of Hawkins was overrun by rifts. Season 5 marks the end of an era, as the show enters its final season. Regardless, Season 5 will likely dominate conversation this month, with the first four episodes releasing on November 26 and the full season arriving on December 25, 2025.
