14-year-old Griffin Nafly (Everett Blunck) lives a quiet suburban life but dreams of becoming a playwright and moving to New York to make a name for himself. Griffin takes the summer holidays as a means to work on his new play, Regrets of Autumn, with his friends Kara (Abby Ryder Fortson), Winnie (Johanna Colón), and Pam (Alivia Bellamy). Yet the arrival of a stranger, a once aspiring actor turned handyman in Brad Rizzo (Owen Teague), causes Griffin to become infatuated and include the man in his writings, blurring his emotions and the creative process.
Griffin in Summer makes its much-needed streaming debut, having flown under the radar despite praise on the festival circuit and strong critical success. The movie currently holds a 94% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Here, authenticity thrives, with filmmaker Nicholas Colia capturing the awkwardness of youth. A thoughtful and realistic coming-of-age film that also touches on issues faced by queer youth, Griffin in Summer will resonate with many. ‘Inheritance’ (2025)

Maya’s (Phoebe Dynevor) life takes a turn when she learns that her estranged father, Sam (Rhys Ifans), was once a spy shortly after his disappearance. This event thrusts Maya into a deadly conspiracy, leading her to follow in her father’s footsteps as she travels the world in search of him and a high-stakes piece of intelligence.
In his review for MovieWeb, Will Sayre would state, “Inheritance is relentlessly entertaining,” adding, “Even if the overall plot feels a bit derivative and predictable, it’s a sprawling, daring ride to the finish line that reminds us of the power of covert cinema.” Indeed, the Phoebe Dynevor-led Inheritance looks to be the perfect pickup for fans of stylized spy-thrillers that work to keep the genre fresh and exciting. ‘Neighborhood Watch’ (2025)

Neighborhood Watch begins with an introduction to Simon McNally (Jack Quaid), a man who was just recently released from a mental health facility. Struggling with paranoid schizophrenia — which manifests itself as the voice of his abusive deceased father — Simon witnesses the abduction of a woman, and the police write him off, knowing his history. Desperate for help, he turns to his neighbor, Ed Deerman (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a bitter, grizzled retired security guard struggling to find meaning in his life. Together, they form an unlikely duo to solve a crime that may or may not have happened.
Receiving only a limited theatrical run, Neighborhood Watch went largely overlooked upon its initial release. This is a shame, as the movie not only features two phenomenal leads at their best, but also presents a sort of throwback to a more classic era of murder mystery, echoing ’70s noir in character development and story. Sean Farley’s screenplay and Duncan Skiles’s direction are also spot on, with the movie finding that balance between a sincere exploration of mental health, an emotional connection between two men, and a gripping mystery. It is 100% a must-watch for film fans who did not get to see this underrated masterpiece in theaters. Neighborhood Watch is available to stream on Hulu on December 12.
‘Together’ (2025)

In Together, audiences are introduced to a young couple, Tim (Dave Franco) and Millie (Alison Brie), at a turning point in their lives. They are both dealing with heavy emotional burdens as they move to a smaller community for work. Early in their new life, the two accidentally fall through a hole and into a pool while hiking. After drinking from the water, they find they are drawn to each other more than ever as their very bodies look to merge.
In her review for MovieWeb, Britt Hayes sang the film’s praises, stating, “Rare is the film that can capture the brutal honesty of our most intimate relationships with such clarity, let alone one that successfully balances searing humor with distinct existential dread.” Later adding, “Together is one of the best genre films about romantic relationships in years.” The movie is undoubtedly an impressive feature-length debut from Michael Shanks, backed by strong performances and some utterly terrifying body-horror moments. Together is available to stream on Hulu on December 31.
