A major player at Disney made a surprise cameo appearance in Zootopia 2! It’s been confirmed that Disney CEO Bob Iger voiced the role of the weather forecaster — aptly named Bob Tiger — in the highly-anticipated sequel. While the media executive is no stranger to the world of television and film and has had a number of appearances on the news and in documentaries throughout his career, this marks his first ever voice-acting gig as an animated Disney character.
Zootopia 2 hit theaters on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and swiftly rocketed to box office success, earning more than $39 million domestically and roughly $81 million globally on opening day. Not only did it rake in the big bucks with ticket sales, but movie critics were also very impressed with the hilarious and emotion-packed sequel. It was Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 92% score from critics, and Verified Hot with an impressive 96% score from the general audience.
FlickFeast’s Katie Smith-Wong said it was “among Disney’s better animated sequels in recent years,” calling it “sharp, funny and incredibly fluffy,” while ComingSoon.net critic Jonathan Sim praised it as a “zippy, colorful, and surprisingly introspective buddy-cop adventure that expands the franchise in fur-nomenal new directions.”
Iger joined a star-studded cast including Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time), Jason Bateman (Ozark), Ke Huy Quan (Loki), Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone), Idris Elba (Luther), Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Danny Trejo (Machete), Shakira (Zootopia), Bonnie Hunt (Pixar’s Cars) and many more.
Bob Iger to Step Down as CEO at Disney
Iger’s cameo in Zootopia 2 can be seen as a sort of “farewell” to the company as Disney announced he would officially be stepping down as CEO at the end of his contract in 2026 — a role he’s helmed for nearly 20 years across two terms. Iger first stepped up as the Chief Executive Officer of Disney from 2005 until 2020. He officially retired from the company in late 2021, but after his successor, Bob Chapek, was fired in 2022, Iger agreed to come back.
While Disney has yet to confirm Iger’s replacement, former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman is expected to take over as the chairman of the board of Disney in early 2026 and begin his search for a successor.
“The Disney Board has benefited tremendously from James Gorman’s expertise and guidance, and we are lucky to have him as our next Chairman – particularly as the Board continues to move forward with the succession process. I’m extremely grateful to Mark Parker for his many years of Board service and leadership, which have been so valuable to this company and its shareholders, and to me as CEO.” – Bob Iger
