Daredevil: Born Again stormed into the MCU, bringing Charlie Cox’s vigilante lawyer into the expansive universe. While the series brings back other cast from the Netflix iteration, like Vincent D’Onofrio and Deborah Ann Woll, the original intent was to be a new take, not a direct continuation. However, as season one was in production, those plans shifted, and the series was retooled, with reshoots and a new narrative direction.
While Daredevil: Born Again was reportedly more law-focused, it shifted to what was ultimately released, which received a warm reception from critics and audiences. However, the complications of the first season aren’t lost on producer Sana Amanat, who told Empire that for the second season, “The landscape was open, and that was so liberating.” Rather than feeling the complications of getting the series off the ground, Amanat said, “We were like, ‘We can do whatever we want.'”
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again wrapped production in July and is currently eyeing a 2026 release on Disney+. While many details are under wraps, Amanat teased D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, setting up the villain’s mindset through the events of the forthcoming season.
“What does it mean for Fisk when he’s gotten everything he wants? When you give a person whose thirst cannot be quenched his most valued treasure, is it enough? Or does he squeeze his treasure too hard?”
Season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is Teasing Big Plans
With production already wrapped, some details surrounding Daredevil: Born Again season 2 have already come to light. The story is planned to pick up with Matt Murdock assembling a team of vigilantes to combat the Kingpin’s “Safer Streets Initiative.” The last audiences saw, Murdock was injured and pushed to the breaking point, determined to fight back against the takeover of New York.
Aside from Cox, the second season sees returning cast members in D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, and Wilson Bethel, among others. However, most fans are anticipating Jon Bernthal’s Punisher to have a larger role, following his own special, and an appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Kristen Ritter was also announced to be reprising her role as Jessica Jones, whom she first played on the Netflix series of the same name. Amanat spoke briefly to Empire about Ritter’s role:
“So the reason she’s back is because it feels like it’s very personal. She brings edginess and lightness — Daredevil can be very dark and dramatic, and she cuts through the BS in a really fun way.”
There have been rumors of other potential Defenders returning from the Netflix slate of shows, with former Iron Fist actor Finn Jones and Luke Cage star Mike Coulter being unconfirmed possibilities. While details are still under wraps, Daredevil: Born Again is a much darker series than many MCU entries, making the upcoming season and Matt’s state of mind a distinctly unique landscape for the massive comic book franchise.
