Chris Hemsworth made himself at home in a new action franchise with Extraction, and all eyes are currently on when a third installment will be heading into production. While it seems nothing is set in stone, franchise director Sam Hargrave has shared a thrilling update that things are definitely moving along with Extraction 3.
Hargrave spoke to Collider at the premiere of his new series, The Last Frontier, and said of the next Extraction movie:
“The plan is to turn over in 2026. […] We’ll roll cameras in 2026, we’ll see how it goes. A lot of it’s based on his schedule with Avengers, which has a lot of moving parts, but that’s the plan, to shoot in ’26 and I’m assuming the release will be some time in 2027. But, of course, I can neither officially confirm or deny these dates! [laughs]”
Netflix has not yet officially confirmed a timeline for Extraction 3, but it seems like Hargrave has an idea of when he would like to get cameras rolling. Fans have made the Extraction franchise an instant hit, so it would make sense for Netflix to want to capitalize on that. However, as Hargrave noted, Hemsworth also has his hands full with his Avengers: Doomsday role, which is said to be filming again next spring.
Chris Hemsworth Will Return as Tyler Rake
The action genre has been a guaranteed source of streaming hits in recent years, from new movies featuring Gerard Butler and Jason Statham to classics starring Stallone and Schwarzenegger, it is hard not to find a streaming platform that does not have several explosive action flicks in its Top 10.
When Netflix unleashed Extraction in 2020, Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake became an instant action hero that audiences wanted to see more of. The sequel arrived in 2023, featuring another blistering kick-ass thrill ride, featuring an impressive one-shot sequence and lots of guns, John Wick-style action, and Hemsworth at his brutal best.
Plot details for Extraction 3 haven’t been revealed. Aside from Chris Hemsworth, the film’s cast hasn’t yet been revealed. Extraction 2 teased that Idris Elba would have a much larger role in the threequel, but his return hasn’t been officially confirmed. Whatever the plot of Extraction 3 will be, expect the stunts to push boundaries again. The past two films included insane hallway fights, driving sequences, and landing a helicopter on top of a moving train. It’s hard to see how Extraction 3 can top that, but that is what
Fans of the Extraction franchise can also expect to see a TV spinoff series, which will expand the universe of the movies and star Omar Sy and Boyd Holbrook, and will “follow a mercenary who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, he must navigate life-or-death choices while confronting deep emotional wounds.” Like Extraction 3, the series has no set release date.
