Let me start by saying Jesse Lee Soffer can direct every single episode of Chicago PD from here on out if he wants to. I think it definitely comes from the fact that he was on the show for so long and he knows deep down what the show is at it’s heart, this was such an incredible episode. The first two episodes of this season have been great!
For me this was such an interesting episode to watch. I love Torres as a character and have been seriously looking forward to seeing how he dealt with the fallout from last season. I don’t think I ever expected to see Torres lose his faith. It was so powerful to watch Dante not be able to say grace with his mother or pray with Brenda after Ivan dies.
I really felt like this was such a classic Chicago PD episode and it was so nice to watch what felt like and early season episode. I do love the newer version and development but there is something so nostalgic about this episode.
This was such a Torres focussed episode, but I loved the fact that we still got little moments from all the other characters, especially as many character focussed episodes can only show the one storyline and you barely see the other characters.
Genuinely one of my favourite scenes of the episode was the conversation between Kevin and Donte. We have previously seen their relationship but knowing that Kevin has been through similar situations and trying not to put too much on himself, not that he has ever really been able to complete that.
I have to say the end of this episode was a little bit wild, I think Jimena Sanz has a few issues and is absolutely not the right person for Donte to be with. Especially since she was inflicting pain, however it seriously seems like Torres will be repeating old actions.
I do feel that he will find his faith again and that’s what will allow himself to find rest within himself but it’s going to be incredibly interesting to watch his story this season.
For those like me that miss Jay Halstead there was a nice little mention of Halstead (the street), it gave me such a smile knowing this was directed by Jesse.
