Let’s go!
Stella’s Heartbreak
So much for the pregnancy.
Stella lost the baby already. The doctor isn’t concerned — it’s normal — but Stella is crushed. She wishes she had waited to tell Kelly or taken another test first. Kelly reassures her they’re in it together every step of the way.
A New Problem Child
Two officers discuss a problematic employee being assigned to 51. Pascal wonders if he has a say, but the decision has already been made.
Enter Sal Vasquez, the new guy for Truck. Pascal greets him, while Kelly reminds him he’s replacing a hell of a good driver. Vasquez smugly insists he’s better.
Turns out, he’s a terrible driver — heavy on the pedal, reckless behind the wheel.
First Fires and First Impressions
The team responds to a gas station fire after a robbery.
One attacker is dead, another subdued by Severide, and the woman behind the counter is left traumatized. Vasquez drives erratically to the call, leaving everyone unsettled.
Back at the house, Ritter vents to Violet and Novak about Vasquez’s driving.
Violet opens up about Sam, admitting they both decided to move on. Ritter admits he’s been texting his ex in New York, who’s now gone quiet — maybe en route to Chicago.
Meanwhile, Mouch gripes that every time he gets to know someone new, they leave. He’s determined to ignore Vasquez so maybe he’ll stick around.
Office Turf Wars
Herrmann is still camping out in the officers’ quarters despite his demotion. He’s struggling with retraining for Truck, a pay cut, and a need for extra income.
He’s even reading More Money Now in bed. Mouch wants his office back, but Herrmann resists. Eventually, they agree to split it with a calendar — basically a timeshare.
Kidd vs. Vasquez
Stella clashes with Vasquez over his insubordination. She demands an apology and for him to fall in line, but he brushes her off.
Pascal tells Stella to take a beat before she loses another firefighter, which annoys her even more.
She confides in Kelly, who tries to tread lightly, but Stella insists something is off with both Vasquez and Pascal.
Trouble in the City
On another call, the team responds to what turns out to be a shooting, not a fire. With bullets flying and no police on scene, they’re left to fend for themselves.
Herrmann jokes it’s like the OK Corral, while Stella wonders where PD is. Vasquez takes a graze to his side but hides it, stitching himself up in secret.
Later, Violet reveals the truth: dispatch has been quietly gutted, with half of 9-1-1 calls going unanswered. City Hall is sitting on a damning report.
Personal Struggles
Mouch gets a devastating call: Ritter’s ex, Duane, has been shot in New York and is in surgery. Ritter rushes off to be by his side.
Stella stumbles across the baby gifts the crew had bought, deepening her heartbreak.
At the same time, she investigates Vasquez and discovers a history of breaking rules and clashing with officers. She pushes to cut him, but Pascal insists Vasquez is staying — this is his last chance in the CFD, and Pascal needs it to work.
Politics and Power Plays
Pascal meets with Chief of Staff Annette Davis (Annabeth Gish), who admits City Hall inherited a mess. Emergency services are underwater, with brownouts and rig reductions spreading across the city.
Pascal rallies 51, telling them this is their new reality: longer runs, heavier workloads, less rest. He urges them to show Chicago what they’re made of.
Back at home, Stella and Kelly are approached by a social worker about fostering a teenage boy who’s about to lose his group home placement.
