For this review I have to start at the end of the episode because what was that! I love a good fall finale cliff-hanger, but I just stared at my screen and said, “is that it”. It stopped so abruptly, I’m kind of glad we didn’t get to see any extra because then I would have been a lot more stressed for Severide. I don’t see them killing off Severide (although I have said that before about other shows) however I could see Van Meter possibly being killed off. They seem to like leaning into the fire cop role over the past couple seasons.
I do love fire cop Severide, but I definitely do not want him to do it full time, hopefully they all make it out of this fire okay, but I can’t say I see that happening. I will thoroughly enjoy the return and continuation of this storyline; however I do think they are missing a trick not having Stella in town whilst Severide’s life is in danger. Although maybe a small idea that could come from this would be confirmation that Stella and Kelly would like to try to have a child again, life being precious and stella bonding with Isaiah could definitely be a good catalyst for them.

Moving onto the rest of the show, and the other thing that shocked me. THEY WANT TO SHUT DOWN ENGINE 51! How can that be? I hope it’s not something that is genuinely going to happen, we have only just begun to see how good Mouch is as Lieutenant and I seriously do not want to stop seeing that. I understand he could go back to truck and cover for Kidd when she isn’t there but I just love being able to see him do what he does best on Engine. If Boden was still in charge, I know that there would be no way he would let that happen, even if it was the last thing he did as battalion chief, but I just don’t know if Pascal has that type of love for 51. Although I do hope he proves me wrong.
I am so glad we got to know a little bit more about Novak’s family. It has always bugged me that we never learned the true story of her family, just that it was messy. It was alluded to that Novak’s mother committed suicide and that Lizzie took over the running of the house. It makes sense why she has so much compassion for people and wants to make sure everyone is happy. I think it will be so lovely to see her finally be able to have a better relationship with her siblings and maybe deal with what happened when she was so young.
I could see that Vasquez’s dad was going to get out of prison from a mile away, but I never expected him to go to his place of work. Clearly his dad is determined to make his life a hell just because he wouldn’t aid with his case. I honestly don’t know what they are doing with Vasquez’s love life because this episode felt like he was more drawn to Violet, and it sort of seemed like she was reciprocating. I truly don’t think that him and Violet would be right for each other, he seems very much like another Gallo or Carver, and she needs another Hawkins.
I can’t wait for the show to be back in January and see if Severide makes it!
