I really liked this episode. I loved seeing Stella try and overcome her fears of being a parent and being there for Isaiah, especially when she had his back when the doctor was treating him like a child. His mum really doesn’t look well and as much as I love seeing Stella being a parent figure, I actually don’t want to see her get attached just before he goes back to his mum. It was awful when Casey and Gabby lost Louie to his biological father, I can’t imagine watching Stella be upset after making a connection. So many things would implode on her at once and she seriously just needs a break from all the heartache, she hasn’t even had time to fully process her miscarriage.
There are few scenes I didn’t care too much for but those mainly involved Vasquez. I have to say his storyline just isn’t intriguing me, his relationship with Novak is but that’s more because I want to see her have some happiness in her life. I think if Vasquez is going to open up to anyone then it will be Novak, but I’d rather watch the development of other characters than get to know Vasquez’s story, it just feels like a redo of past characters storylines.
For some reason this episode did actually make me interested in the budget cuts, I really didn’t think I would actually get invested in them but the loss of 6 Battalion Chiefs will be a gripping storyline. Seeing the fallout of losing that many people in charge for the city and for the fire department will be an interesting watch.
At the moment, I am highly enjoying the bond that Serveride and Pascal have. Obviously, I much prefer the Boden x Sev relationship, but it was so nice to see Severide back having a cigar and a chat on the front apron again. The conversation slightly alluded to Serveride taking up more responsibility and honestly, I would be so happy with this season if they had Serveride be promoted to Captain. He is seriously due a promotion and he showed back when Boden was around that he is more than capable of taking on more roles.
It has to be said that for such a young man Hero Hunter is an absolutely incredible actor, that last scene was so emotionally raw. I can definitely see him doing big things in the future.
This was my favourite episode of the season and if the rest of the season continues this way, then I will be a very happy fan.
