When it comes to building a better Hollywood, Catherine Corcoran is in it for the long haul. On Monday, the “If It Bleeds” and “Terrifier” actress launched FareStream Pictures — a new film and TV production company with plans to champion “bold, emotionally charged storytelling” through women and underrepresented voices, per Deadline. The news comes after Corcoran filed suit against the core “Terrifier” team, alleging breach of contract and extreme sexual harassment, earlier this month.
“Creativity and ethical practice can, and must, coexist for art to thrive,” Corcoran said to Deadline. “Over a decade of experience in this industry has shown me that when artists feel safe, valued, and heard, their work flourishes. FareStream will foster an environment where that kind of courage is prioritized, both on and off screen. We champion safety, transparency, fair compensation, and collaboration, as the future of storytelling belongs to companies who know that great art requires great accountability.”
IndieWire has reached out to Corcoran’s team for comment but did not immediately hear back.
In the announcement, Corcoran outlined FareStream’s commitment to operating safe sets and using intimacy coordinators when appropriate. The actress also promised “transparent accounting, with clear profit participation and tracked backend reporting for her collaborators,” per Deadline. The pending civil dispute between Corcoran and “Terrifier” claims she’s entitled to 1 percent of proceeds from the franchise (covering box-office sales across all three films, as well as any money made from the licensing and use of “Terrifier” IP) — but in the claim, the actress says she’s been paid less than $8,400 to date.
Right now, FareStream Pictures is in pre-production on an adaptation of the 2023 body horror story, “By His Hand.” The script comes from author William R. Perry, and producer Lee Waddell is also attached. It will be directed by Scout Taylor-Compton, who is recognizable as an actress in scads of genre films (including Rob Zombie’s “Halloween”). She announced her directorial debut, “Bring the Law,” set to star Mickey Rourke, last year. The action thriller about corruption in L.A. does not have a release date.
Next, the fledgling production company will look to ancient Greece for inspiration — adapting the myth of the goddess Hera as a live-action series created by Corcoran. As lead writer on “Hera,” Corcoran aims to make her first major move as a storyteller at FareStream. Other FareStream projects include a film adaptation of “The Writing Retreat” by Julia Bartz, an appropriately meta-horror novel from 2023 developed in collaboration with screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos and Veritas Entertainment; and also an undisclosed feature from writer/director Jackson Stewart, which Corcoran will co-produce.
On screen, Corcoran recently starred as an ambitious journalist facing certain peril in “If It Bleeds,” an adaptation of the Stephen King novella and well-loved passion project from director Matthew Hersh. Next up and now in post-production, the actress will appear in and executive-produce the film “Best Friends Forever” — and star in Spider One’s “Big Baby,” from executive producers Cher and Chaz Bono. She’s also partnered with DC Comics veterans Adam Schlagman and Kris Longo through their genre fiction company Panick Entertainment to write two anthology comics, including a reimagining of “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.”
