We’re just three episodes into Brilliant Minds Season 2, and there are more and more clues that link to my Oliver Wolf theory.

I’ve already mentioned that I don’t think Wolf is in Hudson Oaks due to his mental state.

There are a few clues adding up that he’s there on some sort of undercover mission, especially with Carol being the one to encourage him to go there, and now the latest revelation in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 3 deepens my theory.

Josh Nichols Is the New Chief!

With Muriel retiring, Bronx General needed to find a new Chief, and there was arguably only one person for the job.

This person was somewhat overlooked throughout the latest Brilliant Minds episode, as they appeared to rush around to attend to various patients.

Of course, Dr. Josh Nichols never said that he had other patients to get to, but it was easy to suspect that.

Instead, we learned at the end of Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 3, that he’s the new Chief, and this is sure to set up some drama for the two, as can they really be together with the position Nichols now holds?

    Probably not!

That doesn’t mean they can’t be friends, and it doesn’t mean that they can’t have some secrets.

Nichols Would Be on the In

There was something that I couldn’t work out when I thought of Wolf going undercover in Hudson Oaks, and this new development of Nichols being the Chief helps with that something.

You see, I couldn’t work out why Josh would let Wolf go undercover.

And I guess that’s the wrong turn of phrase, since it’s not like Wolf would need anyone’s permission to do this; he just needs their support.

But I couldn’t understand why Josh would be involved in this, or if he was at all.

Would Wolf and Carol want too many people in on it?

    (Pief Weyman/NBC)

Of course, if Nichols didn’t know, then there could be a lot more drama, and since Josh is the Chief, it makes sense that he would know.

    Josh Can Protect Wolf’s Job

One of the things I questioned was how Wolf would keep his job if he went to Hudson Oaks undercover, and now I have the answer.

Josh, Carol, and Wolf could all end up on the same page: Amelia Fredericks is up to something, and the only way to find that out is to go on a mission to dig up dirt.

Of course, Wolf makes the best possible patient out of the three of them, as not only does he have a family history of mental health issues, but he’s the one who could step away from his job.

    (Pief Weyman/NBC)

With Josh as the Chief in Brilliant Minds Season 2, he can help protect Wolf’s job, knowing why Wolf is going inside Hudson Oaks in the first place.

No other Chief would do this, and no other Chief would want to be in on some sort of scheme like this.

Josh and Wolf have a trust in each other that they don’t have with others, just like Wolf and Carol have a trust in each other that’s unique to them, and this is important for such a huge storyline like this.

I have a feeling that Josh could also be the one to help get Wolf out if things ever took a turn, and I suspect the synopsis for Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 could help with that.

    (Pief Weyman/NBC)

Wolf and Carol will attend a house call involving a woman in a conservatorship, and we could see this being used later by Josh as a way to protect Wolf if the initial plan at Hudson Oaks doesn’t quite work out.

It’s probably easier to get out of it with Josh being the one holding it, understanding all the variables.

With Josh as the Chief, it could all work out perfectly.

In fact, there would have been no other way to do this, because even Carol couldn’t have stepped in to protect Wolf’s job or to offer a way out should it have all gone wrong.

More and more pieces of the puzzle are fitting together, and I’m excited to see what Brilliant Minds has in store with the Hudson Oaks arc.
