“We must always have named the band ‘Bambi.’”
That’s the sentiment Anxious vocalist Grady Allen remembered expressing to his bandmates as their second file, Bambi, started to take form. With the brand new album dropping at the moment (by way of Run for Cowl), it’s clear the thought of the band that might have been is baked into every track. It’s nearly as if it’s a self-titled file for an alternate model of the Connecticut quintet.
And that’s to not recommend that Bambi is a few wild idea file that finds the act enjoying characters á la Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Membership Band, neither is it to say that the concepts of their fantastic debut, Little Inexperienced Home, are useless and gone. Reasonably, it’s a creative evolution of Anxious translated by way of the obsessive contemplation of untaken paths and consequential previous choices.
“My portion of lyrics on the file primarily cope with lack of religion,” Allen tells Consequence. “Dropping religion on the earth I’ve created for myself by way of music, dropping religion in my capability to make choices, and dropping religion within the truest and deepest romantic connection I’ve ever cultivated.”
Paradoxically, it’s by way of that lack of religion that Anxious finds strong floor. The instrumentals are as hooky and spectacular as ever, the lyrics are participating and emotional, and the entire thing wraps up with “I’ll Be Round,” a grand ode to friendship with heroic guitars and surprisingly mild vocal melodies. Possibly they need to have known as the band “Bambi,” but when going with “Anxious” led them to this new batch of tracks, now we have religion that all of it labored out ultimately.
