Connie Chung is a legendary trailblazer of the information anchoring world, and her influence has been far and broad — and Kelly Clarkson got down to show as a lot throughout her look on Tuesday’s (November 12) version of The Kelly Clarkson Present.
Chung visited the present to advertise her recently-released memoir and talked about why she determined to call her e-book Connie: A Memoir.
“My husband Maury [Povich] stated, ‘You need to simply title it Connie as a result of there was this phenomenon {that a} lady found, her title was Connie Wong, and he or she chilly emailed me, and he or she stated, ‘I’m named after you,’ and I couldn’t imagine it. And so I talked to her on the telephone, and he or she stated she was solely three when her dad and mom got here from communist China to the U.S., and so they stated, ‘We’ve got to present you an American title.’ And all she knew was what she noticed on tv, so she stated, ‘Connie or Elmo,’” Chung remembered. “What she found was there have been untold numbers of Asian dad and mom who named their child daughters Connie after me. And I couldn’t imagine it was like, ‘Actually?!’”
Chung continued to say, “I went on this e-book tour and I met six or seven extra Connies. It was superb. And I even met a Connie Chung drag queen.”
Clarkson then revealed that she had some members of the viewers — in addition to an NBC web page — who had been really named Connie after Chung, asking them to face up and say hey to their namesake.
“No manner!” Chung reacted.
The web page named Connie was then invited to talk to her idol and stated, “I’m named after Connie, and you’re such an inspiration to me as a result of you will have damaged so many boundaries as the primary Asian-American lady on nationwide information… You all the time remind me to be fearless in addition to keep curious. Thanks a lot.”
“Thanks,” a visibly touched Chung responded earlier than providing the lady an embrace.
