One of the biggest fantasy movies in years, which completely dominated the box office last year, isn’t just settling for one streaming home; it’s taking over multiple sites. The movie shattered box office records in 2025 to become the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time, stealing the crown from Makoto Shinkai and Studio Ghibli. If that wasn’t enough, it scored rave reviews, earning a joint 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics and audiences. Everyone was waiting for the film to become available on streaming. But a year on, we’re now spoiled for choice.
Based on the best-selling manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (full title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle) is officially one of the biggest movies on streaming. But it’s not settling for a single platform. Infinity Castle made its streaming debut on Crunchyroll, the anime streaming platform. Unsurprisingly, the biggest anime movie of all time shot to the top of Crunchyroll’s top 10 and still ranks on that chart several months later. But Infinity Castle was also recently added to Netflix and HBO Max, and users on both platforms cannot get enough of it. At the time of writing, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is the second most popular movie on both Netflix and HBO Max, globally. On Netflix, it’s beaten only by the recently released UNABOMBER “biopic,” while Supergirl is beating it on HBO Max.
‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ Is a Near-Perfect Fantasy Movie
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was almost guaranteed to be a financial success. The latter seasons of the anime might have fallen off, but it’s still one of the most popular anime ever made. But after the divisive “Swordsmith Village” arc (Season 3) and the poorly written “Hashira Training” arc (Season 4), many were expecting Infinity Castle to descend further down the slop rabbit hole. But the film was a sensation with audiences and critics. We’ve already mentioned its joint 98% Rotten Tomatoes score. But on MyAnimeList, it holds a great 8.65 rating, and an 8.4 rating on IMDb.
The Next ‘Infinity Castle’ Movie Is On the Way
As well as bringing Demon Slayer back to the big screen (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train was the first movie, which was released in 2020), Infinity Castle also marked the beginning of the end for the franchise. 2025’s movie was the first in a new trilogy that will bring the entire series to a close. New anime seasons and movies are either announced straight away or years down the line. Thankfully, Infinity Castle 2 remains Ufotable’s top priority (not surprising, considering the first film made $800 million worldwide).
Recently, the sequel received its first release date update. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle 2 is apparently eyeing a September 2027 release date. However, this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Sony, Crunchyroll, or Ufotable.
