It’s now been two decades, but the criminally long-awaited sequel to one of the best movies in the lengthy repertoire of Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage is finally happening, with several images from filming revealing not only Cage’s return, but also his horror icon co-star. Best known for being one of the busiest actors in Hollywood and leading the likes of such action thrillers as Face/Off and The Rock, as well as powerful dramas like Leaving Las Vegas and Pig, Nic Cage is back for a sequel that’s been a long time coming.
Released way back in 2005, the crime thriller Lord of War remains one of the most underrated hits amid Cage’s extensive credits. While the response from critics at the time was a little mixed, as reflected in its 62% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were quickly enamored with this true-ish account of international arms dealer Yuri Orlov, landing the crime outing an impressive 84% on the Poprcornmeter and cementing itself as a Nic Cage fan-favorite.
Now, the follow-up is coming, with Lords of War finds Cage’s arms dealer Yuri Orlov going up against his own son, Anton, played by It star Bill Skarsgård. Filming on Lords of War began just last month, and we finally have our first look at both Cage and Skarsgård in character, which you can check out below…
Nicolas Cage Will Share the Screen With Bill Skarsgård in ‘Lords of War’
Nicolas Cage sharing the screen with Bill Skarsgård (who is currently waist deep in dead bodies thanks to his highly anticipated return as Pennywise in It: Welcome to Derry) in Lords of War is a hugely exciting prospect, with the actor cutting a slick figure as Yuri’s son. The actor previously described his character as “a charismatic f*ing ahole,” which sounds tailor-made for the John Wick: Chapter 4 star.
Alongside a returning Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård, Lords of War will also star Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming, BlacKkKlansman), Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049, The Girl in the Spider’s Web), and Greg Tarzan Davis (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Top Gun: Maverick). Alongside these first look images, you can also check out the synopsis for Lords of War below…
“A chip off the old black, Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one further by amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East. A bitter rivalry erupts, with the two even at odds over the same women.”
Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, who returns to helm the sequel, the original Lord of War stars Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Ethan Hawke, and Eamonn Walker alongside Nicolas Cage, and details the 20-year arms-dealing career of New York-based outcast Yuri Orlov as he takes advantage of growing international tensions at the end of the Cold War and the emergence of worldwide terrorism. Lords of War is certainly one of the most exciting movies on the horizon for Cage, and while the sequel does not yet have a release date, it’s expected to debut in 2026.
