Masters of the Universe is looking to be one of the most anticipated movies of the summer in 2026, and star Nicholas Galitzine has continued to tease what fans of the 80s toy line and cartoon series can expect after decades of waiting for a more faithful adaptation than Dolph Lundgren’s 1987 cult classic. While first reactions have been massively positive, and the designs are following the aesthetics of the original animated series, the new movie is said to be also taking a modern approach, as Galitzine recently explained to ScreenRant.
“Honestly, I knew when I got the script that it was very unlike the type of movies that kind of sit in its genre or bracket. There was something incredibly human about the story, and so humorous, which are two things that I really look for as an actor. Similar to this movie, [100 Nights of Hero], there was humor and also emotionality. There’s a little bit more action, I suppose, with He-Man. [Laughs] But I really am extremely excited for people to see this movie and to meet Adam.
“Without spoiling too much, I think there is a modernity to him that is really interesting. It feels like who he is as a person is a handshake between what traditional masculinity and femininity are, and I think it is very exciting to be able to play that in such a huge studio movie. Obviously, the action and the set pieces are incredible, but there’s a really human story in there as well. I think if I’m going to do something with that level of spectacle, I have to have that as well.”
When Will the ‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer Be Released?
Recently, a secret test screening of Masters of the Universe brought with it several reports that the film is really made for the fans, but can also bring He-Man to a whole new audience. The question everyone now wants to know is when we will get to see the first footage from the movie.
It has been suggested that the trailer is ready to go and will be appearing in cinemas alongside the likes of Avengers: Doomsday and Supergirl very soon. With the movie forming part of a blockbuster summer of movies, which also includes Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there is going to be a lot of attention on the summer of 2026 to see whether the theatrical experience is coming back after several big misfires in recent years.
Masters of the Universe has been in development for many years, switching studios and being reworked constantly for more than a decade. The franchise is a huge nostalgic draw for kids of the 1980s, and a new property to discover for anyone younger. This could give the movie a huge cross-generational appeal, and that is the kind of thing that is essential for a movie to do well at the box office.
Masters of the Universe features an all-star cast alongside Galitzine and Leto, including Alison Brie, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Sam C. Wilson, Kojo Attah, Haftor Bjornsson, Morena Baccarin, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and Jon Xue Zhang make up the main cast. The movie is set to be released in cinemas on June 5, 2026.
