I had the privilege of hearing this tune a while ago, way before it released. At the time, I didn’t know who Cézanne was but the Dutch singer then got in our radar with her collaborations with Alexander IV & her debut album.
“Open Up” is exactly why I’ve been a fan of so many Dutch artists in the past decade – it is equally warm & melancholic, on the verge of soul and indie, sprinkled with jazz.
The song is actually part of something bigger and wonderful – a compilation organized by Rotterdam-based, half-Dutch, half-Croatian producer & multi-instrumentalist Uevo. He brought together several singers, producers & musicians – Thierry Ganz, Superfuse, Prime8, Showyou, Noflik, and of course, Cézanne, for a writing camp in a small village in Croatia.
The result is called Glow – 10 songs, showcasing the unique sound of The Netherlands. In each tune, genres like neo-soul, indie, r&b, hip-hop, and even folk music, blend for a dreamy and hopeful listening experience. It is also available on vinyl, so make sure you snatch one as a Christmas present here.
