We’re just a little over a week away from the premiere of Spartacus: House of Ashur on Starz, and a new clip from the upcoming spinoff showcases a little of what viewers can expect when the show’s newest hero makes her first appearance. Debuting on December 5, 2025, Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in a “What If” reality where Ashur is still alive, reaping the rewards after killing Spartacus on Mount Vesuvius.
The new clip courtesy of Starz titled “Bloody Disagreement” (seen below) reveals the first appearance of Tenika Davis’ character battling her way through Roman soldiers, fighting for her life as she tries to break free of the ties that bind her. She manages to dispatch a few men who underestimate her strength and skill before running into a soldier on horseback, and it’s then that Ashur, who has been watching the entire spectacle, takes her down and puts a knife to her throat before warning her not to move.
Davis is clearly at a disadvantage here as the clip ends, so we’ll have to wait until the House of Ashur premiere to find out what happens next. Still, if that’s just a sampling of things to come, then it’s obvious that the new spinoff is honoring the original Starz series by featuring fierce characters with interesting backstories that we can root for. Of course, we don’t know yet where Davis’ character comes from, but she’s definitely found herself in quite a predicament. Based on the previously released trailer, we know she rises up to become a gladiatrix, but what she has to go through to get there is anyone’s guess.
There Are Multiple Seasons of ‘House of Ashur’ Planned
As if the clip above wasn’t enough to get the blood of any Spartacus fan pumping, we have even better news straight from the mouth of creator Steven S. DeKnight. Speaking with MovieWeb ahead of the two-episode premiere of House of Ashur, he told us that it isn’t going to be a one-and-done miniseries that will only last for a single season, but rather something he’s hoping will run for years to come:
“When I created this show, the plan was always for five to seven seasons.”
Along with DeKnight was star Nick E. Tarabay, who’s reprising his role of Ashur. He jokingly feigned smoking a cigarette before adding: “You shall see Ashur again. I have a good feeling about this.” That being said, there’s been no official word from Starz yet on whether the series has been renewed for Season 2 and beyond, but with DeKnight and Tarabay so confident in their answer, we expect that word regarding House of Ashur’s future will come shortly after the premiere when the first season gets going.
As we await more news on what the future holds for the Spartacusverse, be sure to check out the clip above featuring Tenika Davis in action, and tune into Starz on December 5 when House of Ashur debuts with a two-episode premiere that will set the stage for everything else to follow. New episodes will follow weekly until all 10 have aired.
