Oliver Henry is one of those magnetic electronic producers whose music feels like a refuge in times of distress. The gray-ness of winter is slowly crippling and there are days I have a hard time switching that positive lever in my brain, even though there is so, so much to be happy about. This morning was one of those days, but a great gym session and an endless repeat of Oliver’s new single “A New Start” felt like the perfect remedy.
“Composed for gentle and immersive listening“, Oliver elaborates, and I couldn’t agree more. Listen to the song with open mind and ideally in a place where you can focus. It would do miracles for you. The third and titular track from his A New Start EP (Nov 21st via Gallery Recordings) feels like both a closing chapter and the first page of something new. Sonically it is very expansive, and calm, while carrying this emotional charge captures the Sydney-based producer at his most vibrant and resonant.
Very detailed and profoundly emotive, “A New Start” feels very personal. The track blossoms slowly, with ghostly vocal snippets floating over intertwining synths, arps, and keys. Just like a light mist on a cold winter day, it patiently glides for a moment until the release hits with some warped drums breaking through this specific moment of pure catharsis.
This song is today’s reason to love music.
