The upcoming Superman sequel is well on its way to rolling cameras sooner rather than later, one of the film’s stars has revealed. Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to the hit 2025 film by James Gunn, promises to be a big event film featuring Superman teaming up with Lex Luthor to battle the iconic DC villain Brainiac.
While attending the Perú Comic Con (via Everything_DCU), Superman star Nicholas Hoult was asked about the status of the upcoming sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Of course, he remained tight-lipped, but confirmed that production would begin later next year before the summer: “I can’t reveal anything, I’d get into a lot of trouble. But we start filming in April.” The filming date is not shocking, as Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2027, so production will have to be on schedule without fault ahead of the summer release. Despite Gunn writing the sequel in record time after his debut DCU film, there seems to be no delays or major rewrites thus far.
Ever since the release date was announced for the Superman follow-up, fans have been concerned that things are moving too quickly. This is especially true after Peacemaker Season 2, which was written at the same time alongside two other DCU projects, ended with what many viewers perceived as a disappointing finale. Of course, the verdict on Man of Tomorrow will have to wait until the film bows out in heaters in summer 2027, but the accelerated production timeline may give some pause. After all, The Batman – Part II is coming out a few months later in October, based on a script that has taken several years to produce.
