On the day we celebrate what made neo-soul what it is today, 25 years of Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun, what better way to honor the genre than by showcasing some of today’s most promising artists in the space?
molass is a Cologne-based 4-piece band inspired by artists like Moses Sumney and Hiatus Kaiyote whose sound dwells in the laid-back, soulful cross-over energy of jazz, funk and soul music. Their new single, “Wait For It” bottles the calm thrill of anticipation. You know, the strangely relaxed excitement before something beautiful unfolds. The song is absolutely enchangint and it reflects on the beauty of holding back, the (difficult) art of waiting, and how suspense itself can feel soothing when wrapped in warmth and groove.
I, for one, have 0 patience and could certainly use these sounds to tone things down while the next great thing happens.
Really excited about the evolution of molass. I spent some time watching their live performances on Instagram and I was mind-blown. A groovy fairytale of smoothness.
