The latest actor to play one of the most iconic action heroes in cinema history, James Bond, has finally broken his silence. While we continue to await the news of who will play the character in the upcoming James Bond 26, 007 is getting another reboot in video game form, and the actor cast to portray the beloved spy has now offered some insight into his “pretty surreal experience.”
While we’ll likely be waiting until next year before finding out which, if any, of the current James Bond favorites will don the famous tux for director Denis Villeneuve and Amazon, Dexter: Original Sin star Patrick Gibson stars as Bond in the upcoming video game reboot, 007 First Light. In a new interview with IO Interactive, Gibson revealed what it’s like seeing himself brought to life as the character…
“Seeing yourself as a video game character is one thing and then seeing yourself as James Bond is kind of even stranger. But also just the likeness I was kind of taken aback by. I wasn’t fully expecting it to look like me.”
But look like him, it does, and while the identity of who was playing 007 in First Light was kept a secret for a surprisingly long time, many quickly guessed that it was the Dexter prequel star. Gibson is joined in 007 First Light by an all-star cast that includes Priyanga Burford (Industry, No Time to Die) as M, Lennie James (The Walking Dead) as John Greenway, Kiera Lester (Maigret) as Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie (Andor) as Q, Noémie Nakai (Tokyo Vice) as Miss Roth, and Gemma Chan (Eternals) as Dr. Selina Tan. 007 First Light is set to be released on March 27, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2, and you can check out the official synopsis below…
“007 First Light is a thrilling narrative action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive. Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.”
What Might ‘007 First Light’ Tell Us About Amazon’s Plans for James Bond?
Though there is currently no suggestion that 007 First Light will have any connection with what Amazon has planned, there are already several similarities between the two projects. Patrick Gibson falls into the age range that the studio is reportedly looking for, as well as being a “fresh face” capable of launching the franchise into its next era.
The video game will also tell an origin story, something that has been rumored for the live-action movie as the best approach to the franchise following the fatal ending of Daniel Craig’s 007. For now, we will have to simply wait and see whether 007 First Light offers any clues, but the similarities, and in the name of synergy, as well as the fact that this latest iteration of Bond looks so much like Gibson (who has seen himself become a bookies’ favorite for the Amazon reboot) should result in much suspicious chin-stroking.
