Swaybox Studios is holding an open audition for fans to be part of the Dynamic Duo and to release a special video featuring footage that might hint at the upcoming animated film. Dynamic Duo is set to center on two Robins from DC Comics history, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Dynamic Duo will open in theaters on June 30, 2028, and will be animated by the Louisiana-based animation studio Swaybox, combining puppets, stop-motion, and computer animation.
Swaybox Studios released a video on their Instagram announcing an open audition for animators on Dynamic Duo. The open audition will take place on Nov. 15, 2025, and says no experience is necessary. They released a video for the project, featuring test footage from other projects that highlights the studio’s sophisticated puppetry. It notably features a model doing acrobatics, similar to those Robin is known for. It also features a car chase sequence that says “Footage from unreleased Swaybox/6th and Idaho films”, with 6th and Idaho Productions being the name of Matt Reeves’ production company. The footage could be from Dynamic Duo and can be seen below. The Swaybox website says the open call is for “animators” and that it is “not an open casting call for voice actors.
‘Dynamic Duo’ Originally Began as a Catwoman Project
While the car chase footage in the sizzle reel could be for Dynamic Duo, it could also have been for a now-canceled film based on another Batman character. Arthur Mintz, the director of Dynamic Duo and head of Swaybox Studios, said that they were originally working on a Catwoman film with the title heroine as a child, via DCFilmNews. It was one of the many titles canceled by David Zaslav when he became head of Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022. Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, was reportedly impressed by the footage he saw and brought it to David Zaslav, who reportedly loved it. This suggests Zaslav canceled the Catwoman film without having seen any footage. However, instead of reviving the Catwoman project, Warner Bros. said to secure a theatrical release, it needed a bigger scope, so the plans shifted from a young Catwoman film to two Robins, resulting in the Dynamic Duo.
Dynamic Duo is a DC Studios film, but it is unclear whether it is intended to be part of the DCU, as with the hand-drawn animated series Creature Commandos. Currently, the Damian Wayne version of Robin is expected to appear in The Brave and the Bold, with James Gunn hinting that the movie will feature other members of the Bat-family, possibly Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. With two Robin-centric projects in the works at Warner Bros., it seems safe to say that Matt Reeves likely won’t include the Boy Wonder in The Batman – Part II.
With Dynamic Duo over three years away from release, there is plenty of time for Swaybox to assemble its animators and begin working on the film. Superhero animated films have often been regarded as some of the best in the genre, from Batman: The Mask of the Phantasm to The Incredibles, and both Spider-Verse movies are game-changers in the animation industry. It appears Warner Bros. hopes the Dynamic Duo can shake up both the animation industry and the superhero movie landscape. One look at Swaybox’s test footage, and if it is any indicator, Dynamic Duo will be eye-catching.
