Keanu Reeves is slowly gearing up to unleash his next great action hero. Following his demise as the beloved dog-loving assassin John Wick (though he is potentially returning for a Chapter 5…somehow), Reeves needs to get his gun-wielding, fist-throwing fix somewhere else – and an adaptation of his own superhero comic book is sure to be the perfect place to find it.
BRZRKR is the “brutally violent, epic comic book saga” written by Keanu Reeves alongside New York Times best-selling co-writer Matt Kindt (“Folklords,” “Justice League of America”), with art by Ron Garney (“Wolverine,” “Captain America”), Eisner and Harvey Award-nominated colorist Bill Crabtree (“BPRD”), and letterer Clem Robins (“Hellboy”), and follows an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages.
Debuting back in 2021, an adaptation has been in the works since the beginning, and while news has been oddly scarce considering the appeal of both Reeves and action-packed stories of immortal warriors,
“I can tell you that I am at a point in my career right now where time and efficiency is driving all my decisions and the people that I want to work with, and that’s one of my favorite projects.”
‘BRZRKR’ Is the Perfect Action Movie Follow-Up for Keanu Reeves
After directing The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and F9, before walking away from Fast X, Justin Lin has left that particular billion-dollar action franchise behind. Continuing, the director heaped praise on Keanu Reeves and his collaborative skills, and said he cannot wait to “honor [the comic] in its spirit” when bringing the world of BRZRKR into live-action.
“I would say that I’ve been very fortunate that, as I’m talking to you now, I get to work with these amazing people. I’m really looking forward to my next chapter as a filmmaker.”
Keanu Reeves will play the title role of the immortal warrior known as “B,” and while The Matrix star was considering directing the project himself, Lin will be given the job of crafting the actor’s next John Wick-style action franchise. While we await further updates, you can check out the official synopsis for the BRZRKR comic book series below…
“The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-God and is cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. After wandering the world for centuries, this mysterious mercenary may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, he will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”
