Three years after AMC’s Better Call Saul concluded its six-season run, revered show creator Vince Gilligan is back with a new project on Apple TV. Starring Better Call Saul alum Rhea Seehorn, Pluribus is a dramatic science fiction series that features nine episodes in its inaugural season. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, home of Gilligan’s landmark crime series Breaking Bad and its popular spin-off, Pluribus is sure to showcase all the showrunner’s regional storytelling trademarks.
In addition to presenting the project’s fascinating premise, cast of characters, writers, directors on board, and more, laying out Pluribus‘ release schedule on Apple TV will help Gilligan fans keep track of how, when, and where to watch the new series. With Apple TV confident enough to preemptively order two seasons, here’s the best way to watch Pluribus when it premieres this November.
What Is Apple TV’s ‘Pluribus’ About?
In Vince Gilligan’s first science fiction series since working on The X-Files, Pluribus (or Plur1bus) boasts a captivating high-concept. In modern-day Albuquerque, Carol Sturka (Seehorn) is a romance historian with a reputation for being “the most miserable person on Earth.” Carol’s profound unhappiness leaves her immune to an enigmatic virus that has ravaged the New Mexican city, transforming citizens into overly cheery optimists. Unsettled by the suspiciously blithe denizens, Carol navigates a surreal environment in which people are mandated into unnatural happiness. As she eagerly asks a state official in the newly released trailer, “How do I reverse all this?”
The conspicuous title, Pluribus, undoubtedly refers to “E pluribus unum,” the traditional slogan printed on the Great Seal of the United States. Translating to “out of many, one,” in Latin, E pluribus unum denotes the country forming one nation from several colonies in the 1700s. Although Pluribus alone means “many,” the series’ title hints at Carol’s sense of isolation and alienation in New Mexico as everyone around her becomes infected by the bizarre happiness contagion.
‘Pluribus’s Release Schedule, Explained
Although Pluribus Season 1 features nine episodes, they will not all be made available at once. Instead, Apple TV will release the first two episodes on Friday, November 7, 2025. From there, the streamer will release one new episode weekly every Friday.
Episode 3 premieres on November 14, Episode 4 on November 21, continuing weekly until the ninth and final episode on December 26. Given the holiday season release schedule, it wouldn’t be surprising if Thanksgiving and Christmas were woven into the narrative. Who Stars in ‘Pluribus’?
In addition to Better Call Saul alum Rhea Seehorn leading the way, Pluribus features an eclectic cast. Although their roles have been purposely kept under wraps, Karolina Wydra (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) plays Zosia, Carlos-Manuel Vesga (The Snitch Cartel: Origins) plays Manousos, Miriam Shor (Younger) plays Helen, Kevin Chambers (Face Off) plays Dr. Nguyen, and Peter Bergman (The Young and the Restless) plays a White House official whom Carol calls for advice on how to deal with the virus.
Additional Pluribus cast members include twin sisters Monae and Monique Lott (Life Insurance Lottery), McKenzie Scott (Duster), Jeremiah Latrell Caldwell (Chicago P.D.), Jennifer Bravo (61st Street), Michael Ray (Chicago Fire), Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death), Joanne Marie (Eddington), and Anthony Xavier Estrada (Ransom Canyon).
Who Writes and Directs ‘Pluribus’?
As is often the case for a TV series, several writers and directors have been hired to bring Pluribus to life on the small screen. While it would be ideal if Vince Gilligan wrote and directed all nine episodes himself to retain a singular vision, that’s just not how most TV shows operate in this day and age. Fortunately, Gilligan has brought back many of Better Call Saul‘s staff writers and kicks off the show with a bang by writing and directing the first two episodes himself. Unfortunately, the remaining directors have not yet been announced.
Pluribus’s third episode was written by Gordon Smith, who wrote 28 episodes of Better Call Saul and continues his working relationship with Gilligan. Episode 4 was scripted by Alison Tatlock, who also wrote five episodes of Better Call Saul and has horror and sci-fi credits, including The Whispers and Stranger Things.
Pluribus‘s fifth episode was written by Ariel Levine, the author behind many of the short, interstitial Better Call Saul commercials and training videos. Episode 6 was penned by Vera Blasi (Tortilla Soup), whose last credit came via 2012’s World War II movie Emperor. Episode 7 was written by Jenn Caroll, who produced 52 episodes of Better Call Saul and co-produced the Breaking Bad spin-off movie El Camino.
Episode 8 of Pluribus was written by Jonny Gomez in his debut, after serving as a writer’s production assistant on Preacher and Better Call Saul. Finally, Episode 9 was co-written by Gordon Smith and Alison Tatlock. As familiar with Gilligan as can be, Pluribus‘s writing staff promises to deliver the same high caliber of drama that allowed Better Call Saul to stay on the air for seven years.
If Gilligan does not write and direct every episode, hiring experienced writers familiar with his style ensures consistent quality. With many from Better Call Saul working on Pluribus, there will be a creative shorthand to ensure the utmost quality that fans have come to expect from a Gilligan project. Pluribus will premiere on Apple TV with its first two episodes on November 7.
