Some kids are trick or treating, and they got to a house that they feel is haunted to take a picture but hear screaming inside. They look inside and think they see a ghost doing something to a person and run away.
At Morgan’s home, her son wakes her up dressed in his Halloween constume. He’s dressed as Copernicus. And he inquires about the backpack that Morgan fell asleep with and she tells him that it’s the reason Ava is still mad at her.
Elliott tells her to make amends with Ava.
Morgan shows up at the crime scene with candy trying to get Karadec to eat some while at the scene, but he’s too serious for it. They run down the case, and someone has severed the power at the house.
Danny is the victim, and they find meds and things to maybe suggest that his death was natural causes, but Morgan says it doesn’t make sense.
Daphne and Oz show up and say that the ghost of the woman who previosly lived in the house could be behind things. Danny dies suspiciously close to how Dash a man from many years ago died there and Maddie, the ghost she references talks about it.
They then get notification that the kids identify someone who looks like the ghost of Maddie. Daphne is committed to this but Oz and Karadec are very resistant to it all and Oz even makes fun of Daphne.
Oz finds salt on the floor and Morgan surmises that Danny must’ve thought his house was haunted and he actually make a pentagram out of salt leading to stones that ward off ghosts.
They also piece together that someone who specialized in occult type stuff had to have helped him, which makes them a possible suspect.
Morgan and Karadec go to speak to Calliope the spiritual advisor. Morgan calls Calliope a fraud to her face after hearing about the five grand she charges and how unknowledgeable she is about her suppose specialty.
Calliope did tell them that there were some noises happening at the house that were legit, so Morgan and Karadec head back there. Morgan keeps getting spooked by so many noises. Morgan finds something in the vents at the house while Karadec finds someone dressed as Maddie the ghost in the basement.
She runs and then runs into Morgan when Karadec finds them and arrests the woman who was trying to flee. It was her bag that Morgan found.
Morgan heads home to start dinner for the kids and Ava still isn’t talking to anyone so her brother is speaking for her. Ava blows up when Morgan tries to talk to her.
Wagner shows up at the station to interview the suspect because he’s friends with the mayor who wants this case wrapped up quickly. He also is doing a press conference which he and Soto clash a bit over because she doesn’t want a press thing to happen until they have all the details right.
Oz and Soto watch Wagner interrogate Shauna. He sends them a message that he’s playing Shauna to get information. And what he does work because Shauna admit that Danny’s ex-wife was behind paying her to haunt the house.
Morgan and Karadec catch Danny’s daughter arguing with the ex-wife and leaving the office. She accuses the ex of always being obessed with the house and not caring about her dad.
The ex-wife tries to leave the office early and push off meeting the cops, but she bumps into Morgan andn Karadec, and they interview her.
She admits that she just wanted the house, and she didn’t want him dead, she thought spooking him would do the trick.
After seeing a letter that the ex produces written by Danny, Morgan concludes that Danny was poisoned because his handwriting was off, he was stumbling, and so forth. If they hadn’t checked those pills, the ex-wife would have gone down for the murder, so the real killer was trying to set her up.
Oz and Karadec head to Danny’s firm to speak with people he worked with. He was a lawyer, and it seemed like Danny got completely wrapped up in the house and the obession. Danny’s work office looks like a tinfoil situation.
Morgan and Karadec figure out that there’s a disappearing room in the house because they lost about 300 feet or so.
Everyone shows up at the house so Morgan can do her theorizing, and she even gets Soto down there, too.
They find the secret room, and it’s the one where Maddie killed herself and it got walled off. Danny must have found it but wanted to keep this piece of history hidden because he also found a diamond necklace in there worth an incredible amount of money.
At the station, Wagner shares a root beer with Morgan and talks about marriage and things like that. He points out that Morgan talking about marriage makes her anxious.
He shares that the woman he got close to marrying died years ago. Once again, Morgan and Wagner share this intimate moment together.
The team, and Wagner, are in the bullpen and start brainstorming and piecing things together. They figure out that Danny found the expensive necklace, wanted to keep it there until after his divorce was finalized so he wouldn’t have to pay half of it to his ex-wife.
It’s worth about $20 million dollars. But someone found out about it and they were trying to steal the necklace and missed their shot at doing so when the trick or treaters showed up.
Morgan figures it out and says they have to give the person their opportunity so they can catch them.
Wagner does a press conference announcing that they arreted Lorraine, the ex-wife. Meanwhile, Danny’s daughter is speaking to his spiritual advisor. She was the one that sought her for help, and the the spiritual advisor.
It was a trap to get Calliope there. She knew about the necklace and went there to retrieve it and was shocked to see the team watiing for her.
Calliope switched out his sleeping pills for potassium chloride. She arranged it all to capitalize off of Danny’s fears and take the expensive necklace.
They arrest Calliope. Back at home, Morgan and Ava finally talk and express themselves and stances. Ava apologizes for scaring Morgan but not for going to learn more about her father. Morgan apologized to Ava, and she lets her go to a party and shows her the backpack.
They find a picture inside that Roman must have drew of Ava’s first grade recital — it proves that he was there at the time, watching.
