Fans have been speculating for months who Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will be playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Now they have been given a first look at the actress on set, which has led to the assumption she is playing Caterpillar Girl.
No, not really, but currently the only image circulating online does not really give too much away about Sink’s mystery character, as she has only been seen wrapped up in a very large padded coat with the hood pulled up. Eagle-eyed fans have been able to spot a flush of red hair poking out of Sink’s hood, and therefore theorized that she will be playing “the real” MJ Watson or Lady Punisher, given the rumors of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle being given a sidekick in the movie.
Of course, The Whale star is naturally a redhead, so there is nothing at all to say her character’s hair is specific to a character in that way. But, until Marvel Studios make it official, speculation will no doubt continue, and it is just as likely that we will see more candid shots of Sink on set soon.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Becoming an Ensemble Piece
Following the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was reported that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures clashed over what the next Spider-Man movie would look like. Sony were said to want another big multiverse movie, with more former Marvel characters coming into contact with each other via incursions. Marvel Studios, and Kevin Feige in particular, wanted to bring Spider-Man back to street level with a feel closer to Daredevil. It seems like Feige mostly won.
Although Spider-Man: Brand New Day is not a multiverse adventure, it has grown its cast to include several existing characters that did not feature in previous Tom Holland movies. Along with Bernthal reprising his role as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo will be back as Bruce Banner/Hulk, in his first major appearance since She-Hulk, and Michael Mando will be finally returning as Scorpion after almost a decade.
In the mix is Sink’s mystery character, Krondon as Tombstone, Tramell Tillman, Melanie Scrofano, and Spider-Man regulars Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and J.K. Simmons putting in his usual brief appearance as J. Jonah Jameson.
There have been plenty of rumors about the plot of the movie, with some suggesting that Ruffalo’s Hulk will turn villain and battle both Spider-Man and the Punisher after going on a long-time-coming rampage. Then there is the multiverse to consider, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the last movie released before the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026. Internet rumors have said the film’s post-credit scene will finally reveal Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom after his tease at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but that is something we will have to wait until next year to find out.
