As if Zack Snyder fans needed any more reason to continue their calls for the director to be allowed to bring back his DC Universe, with Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot et al, his decision to finally join Instagram and share some provocative posts has given them it.
Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took on the role of co-CEOs of DC Studio and rebooted the franchise without the stars of Snyder’s DCEU, fans of the Man of Steel helmer have been very vocal in taking every opportunity to sling mud in the direction of Gunn’s Superman. This has included calling out the appearance of the movie, Gunn’s writing and directing, comparing David Corenswet to Henry Cavill…and on and on.
Now, Snyder’s arrival on Instagram saw him initially post a behind-the-scenes image showing Henry Cavill on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This, on its own, would have been more than enough to spark the usual discussions, but emphasizing it with a caption of “Henry Cavill is Superman,” turned it into a viral scatter bomb. The post gained almost half a billion likes and was shared across every social media site by those wanting to point out that, to them, Cavill is and always will be the only Superman they want to see on screen.
Zack Snyder Has Continued to Share BTS Shots
Snyder’s post and his comments are obviously going to be taken as a rallying call for SnyderVerse fans to raise their voices again and call for him to be reinstated as the mastermind of the DCU. Another previously unseen shot of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke – a character who many believe was hard done by when Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie was scrapped – added to the “what might have been” vibe and sparked yet more calls for Snyder to be allowed to continue his DC journey by any means possible.
One thing that should really be noted at this point, though, is that while these two images have become a beacon for Snyder fans, the director has also been sharing plenty of other BTS images from other movies, including one he is working on now, The Last Photograph.
Although Snyder was allowed to finally bring his version of Justice League to life in 2021, that really is where the story ends for that saga and nothing is going to change that. Everyone previously involved in the DCEU, including Snyder himself, has said on multiple occasions that they are done with the franchise and have moved on. Fans just don’t want to hear it.
Snyder has moved on to many other things since his time helming Warner Bros.’ DC content came to an end. This has included his Netflix Rebel Moon movies, and animated series, Twilight of the Gods, and his Army of the Dead saga, also on Netflix. Although Rebel Moon did not receive the best reviews, Snyder recently teased that he has “endless” stories to tell, but whether he gets the chance to do so will all rely on Netflix taking the gamble on audiences still wanting more. In the meantime, he has been working on an LAPD SWAT movie and MMA film Brawler, but as yet, neither project has a release date set.
