If John Wick was your introduction to Keanu Reeves, you’d never believe anyone who told you he was a funny guy. That dude? The Gun-fu expert? Hell no! That’s until they show you a clip from Tune in Tomorrow or Parenthood. Reeves is now known as an action star and rightfully so, but he has tried just about every genre possible. So good has he been as Wick that people sometimes forget he was in movies like The Devil’s Advocate and Siberia.

Reeves is currently making all the headlines for his work in the comedy movie, Good Fortune. Interestingly, he injured himself badly while making the movie, something that rarely happens while he is on set for the more physically intensive role of John Wick. The actor told Stephen Colbert that he cracked his patella “like a potato chip” while shuffling quickly out of a cold plunge. Now that’s not funny at all, but the following movies are.

Here are Keanu Reeves’ 10 best comedy movies.

    ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ (2024)

In Sonic 3, Team Sonic — Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba), and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) — face Shadow (Keanu Reeves), a new foe who had been trapped in suspended animation for 50 years. Proficient in various fighting skills, Shadow proves too good for the heroes, forcing them into an uneasy alliance with their enemy, Gerald Robotnik (Jim Carrey).

    The Fast & the Funny

Directed by the gifted Jeff Fowler, this is one of the sharper sequels in the franchise, a fast-paced and engrossing film with a lot to say. All the leads are solid, with Carrey particularly impressive in a usual goofy role. He is the reservoir containing much of the humor, but Schwartz and Elba also contribute, thanks to their well-written banter. However, Keanu Reeves almost steals the movie. The actor had been fan-cast for the role, and he ended up being a natural fit. He clearly had an easy time because Shadow and John Wick are quite similar.

    ‘Tune in Tomorrow’ (1990)

It’s the 1950s in Tune in Tomorrow and Martin Loader (Keanu Reeves) is enjoying his job at WXBU, a local radio station. That’s until eccentric scriptwriter Pedro Carmichael (Peter Falk) is hired. When Martin falls for an older woman, Pedro learns about her and starts incorporating details of their romance into the script of his daily drama radio series, called “Kings of the Garden District”. Predictably, this causes trouble at some point.

A Thin Line Between Fiction and Reality

Tune in Tomorrow starts slow, but viewers who stay the course and are not discouraged by the initial languor are sufficiently rewarded with some wonderfully hilarious moments and a cute little coda in the final moments. Suffice it to say the film’s title fully delivers on its promise. None of it would have been possible without the great work of a young Reeves. A movie about radio also needs a good soundtrack, and Wynton Marsalis does an excellent job, even making a cameo with his band.

    ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ (2003)

Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) from Something’s Gotta Give is a wealthy record executive who only dates younger women. When he and his girlfriend visit the beach house of her mother, Erica (Diane Keaton), for some alone time, Mama suddenly shows up. There, things get complicated with Harry falling for Erica, and Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves), Erica’s young doctor, expressing his feelings for the older woman.

    The Big “Age” Question

Directed by the great Nancy Meyers, Something’s Gotta Give is as touching and as funny as rom-coms get. Outfitted with a superb, star-studded cast that also includes Frances McDormand and Jon Favreau, it tackles age-related bias in the dating market using a bare-knuckles approach. “You’re always looking for the next best thing. That’s why you’ll always be alone,” says Erica at some point. Keaton shines brighter than everyone else, and there were no surprises when the Academy nominated her for Best Actress. But Reeves puts his best foot forward, too.

    ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ (2022)

Superman’s dog, Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), becomes depressed when his master and the rest of the Justice League get kidnapped by the super-powered guinea pig Lulu (Kate McKinnon), who is looking to impress Lex Luthor (Marc Maron). He thus teams up with a motley gang of shelter pets to save the heroes. They include the hound, PB (Vanessa Bayer), and Ace, a Boxer who is later acquired by Batman (Keanu Reeves). Are these DC League of Super-Pets protagonists capable?

Lulu Will Not Have Her Way

Light-hearted and action-packed, DC League of Super-Pets boasts witty turns from everyone, including Reeves, whose not-so-deep Batman voice is still a hoot. Overall, the plot of this animated DC movie is kinda boilerplate, but that really shouldn’t matter. You will enjoy watching as these unlikely animal heroes are thrown together to save the world from Luthor and his unscrupulous types. They easily assume responsibilities and become a close-knit family, earning the respect of the dominant species.

    ‘Good Fortune’ (2025)

There are levels to guardian angels in Good Fortune. For example, Angel Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) is part of the lower-tier group, tasked with small duties like preventing people from knocking their feet on hard objects. Noticing that Arj (Aziz Ansari) has hit rock bottom financially, Gabriel tries to teach him that happiness is possible without wealth.

Money Doesn’t Run the World, Says Gabriel

Has John Wick become an angel after dying in Chapter 4? Critics have widely praised the new supernatural comedy, singling out Reeves as the true star. Many reviews give him a thumbs up for his tender portrayal of a sweet, charming, and compassionate character. Seth Rogen has also been commended for playing himself as always (he is Arj’s boss in the movie), while the minor but impactful contributions of Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer haven’t been forgotten.

    ‘Always Be My Maybe’ (2019)

Sasha Tran (Ali Wong), a celebrity chef, has returned to her home city of San Francisco to open a new restaurant in Always Be My Maybe. There, she meets her childhood best friend, Marcus Kim (Randall Park), but before he can express his feelings, she reveals that she is seeing Keanu Reeves (playing himself). Things get fascinating when Sasha and Keanu decide to go on a double date with Marcus and his girlfriend.

    Feelings Never Die

Peerless director Nahnatchka Khan seamlessly blends comedy, career, and romance in this engrossing tale of love that has bubbled for a long time and never evaporated. With winning performances by everyone (Keanu Reeves is joyously silly) and a priceless screenplay co-written by Randal Park and Ali Wong, the film is ideal for a rewatch. Watch out for the fight between Marcus and Keanu. There ought to have been a clear winner there, but we will accept the outcome.

    ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (1992)

Based on William Shakespeare’s play of the same name, Much Ado About Nothing centers on love stories in Messina. Count Claudio (Robert Sean Leonard) and Hero (Kate Beckinsale) intend to marry. Elsewhere, Benedick (Kenneth Branagh) and Beatrice (Emma Thompson) profess their hatred for the institution of marriage, but friends trick them into believing the other likes them. Sadly, the evil Don John (Keanu Reeves) lies to Claudio that Hero has skeletons, ruining everything.

Thou Shalt Not Ruin Another Person’s Happiness

Drama is the name of the game. Some people lose their wits. Others have their faith revitalized. But the good thing is that, like in most Shakespeare adaptations, no one’s sins are easily washed away. Excellent performances by Robert Sean Leonard, Denzel Washington, Emma Thompson, and Kate Beckinsale tweak the picture, but Keanu Reeves throws himself into the bad dude role heart and soul. Don’t be mistaken. Much Ado About Nothing is about a lot.

    ‘Parenthood’ (1989)

Parenthood’s Gil Buckman (Steve Martin) is a sales executive with a rather complex family. Each of his children has unique challenges. Understandably, Gil feels like he has failed as a father. Enter Tod (Keanu Reeves), the dim-witted but well-meaning boyfriend of Gil’s elder daughter, who ends up blessing the family with tips about parenting and contentment.

    Too Much Pressure

Ron Howard’s cynical family comedy may not please all fathers, but it nevertheless presents a largely accurate and flavorful depiction of the challenges many elderly men go through. He really captures the indoor melancholy to the tiniest detail, and still manages to mine humor out of the most obvious situations. But the comedy truly soars on the strength of two talents: Dianne West, who really behaves like a suburban mom (she received an Oscar nomination), and Keanu Reeves, who is the boyfriend who talks more than he should. Want to learn some tips. Catch Parenthood.

    ‘Toy Story 4’ (2019)

Woody (Tom Hanks) isn’t happy in Toy Story 4. He feels neglected by his new owner, Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw), until she creates “Forky,” (Tony Hale), a spork who thinks he is worthless. Woody thus decides to help him find a purpose. When Forky leaps from the RV during a trip, Woody follows him to rescue him. The two find themselves on a wild journey where the protagonist is reunited with his long-lost buddy, Bo Peep (Annie Potts), and meets the daredevil, Duke (Keanu Reeves).

Another Good Day To Be a Toy

It’s hard to single out one or two actors for praise in Toy Story 4. Everyone from Jordan Peele to Carl Weathers does a great job. Keanu Reeves’ time is limited, but he makes an impact. Overall, the funny flick feels polished in all areas. No surprise when it won Best Animated Feature at the Oscars and became the eighth highest-grossing movie of 2019. Don’t miss the priceless scene where Bo and her sheep rave about the importance of independence. For great entertainment, sink into this fourth installment.

    ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ (1989)

Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure are struggling in school, and are almost losing hope, unaware that they will become rock stars in the future and composers of music that will inspire a Utopian society. In 2688, one of the citizens is tasked with travelling back in time to ensure the two slackers pass history class, which is a determinant in their course. After arriving, the time traveler named Rufus (George Carlin) uses a booth to take them on a wild journey through history.

History Is More Fun Than They Expected

Veteran filmmaker Stephen Herek directed this stirring sci-fi comedy about luck, resilience, and hard work, based on a comedy standup routine that screenwriters Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson had performed a few years earlier. Herek would make other hits like 101 Dalmatians and The Three Musketeers, but this remains his strongest work. Reeves is nothing less than sensational; no wonder Hollywood embraced him tightly from there on. History lovers will also have a blast watching figures like Socrates, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
