In the most unsurprising turn of events, 
Prime Video has a new number one in the form of Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault), the romantic comedy drama that finally brings the “Culpables” trilogy to a damp, dull close with all the wonderful hair and little else that the saga has become known for outside its many diehard fans.
For anyone who has managed to avoid the franchise, which is based on a series of WattPad novels by Mercedes Ron, you have missed the story of Noah and Nick, step-siblings who find themselves falling in and out of love with each other in a schmaltzy, steamy relationship spread across three novels, with the usual twists, turns, break-ups and reunions that are expected in such stories. Now, Culpa Nuestra brings the story to a close, with a synopsis that reads:
“Jenna and Lion’s wedding brings about the long-awaited reunion between Noah and Nick after their breakup. Nick’s inability to forgive Noah stands as an insurmountable barrier. He, heir to his grandfather’s businesses, and she, starting her professional life, resist fueling a flame that’s still alive. But now that their paths have crossed again, will love be stronger than resentment?”
The first movie, Culpa Mai (My Fault), was released in 2023 and scored a horrendous 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Culpa Tuya (Your Fault) arrived a year later with a slightly improved 18%. Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault) has yet to receive a score but it currently has two positive reviews (which are actually just more accepting of it being “repetitive and overly dependent on contrived coincidences) and three negative ones. Several comments are made about the film just being boring (“even the sexy parts” according to one review), while Archi Sengupta of LeisureByte.com says it just “makes you want to scream into a pillow over and over again.”
Audiences that have taken the time to review have only really done so to give mostly negative reviews, including Raluca N’s stunning assessment of the movie being “absolute cinematic bullsh-t”, but one glowing five-star review by Jocelyn M calls it a “wonderful ending and it definitely is an amazing movie to end the trilogy.” Everything out there has a fan somewhere.
‘Culpa Neustra’ Continues a Streaming Trend
While it is clear from many reviews that Culpa Nuestra follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, with a huge debut on Prime Video, offset by reviews that suggest, below the gloss and pretty faces, the film is a shallow, ugly mess for those who have taken a dislike to anything that originates in the world of WattPad or in adapted fan-fiction.
Over the years, WattPad adaptations have frequently dominated streaming platforms, but rarely managed to attract many positive reviews. However, the trend of shows and movies that have a millions-strong fanbase ready and primed to jump into any new release based on a novel that has been shared online 10s of millions of times is one that doesn’t seem to be abating. If anything, more streamers are looking to snap up the rights to similar novels, hoping to continue to attract huge audiences regardless of the reaction it receives from non-fans.
Culpa Nuestra, and the previous movies in the trilogy, is streaming now on Prime Video.
