M. Night Shyamalan has officially joined the Mattel film and television universe. On Monday, the filmmaker announced he is helming a live-action Magic 8 Ball series, for which he will direct and share co-creator and co-showrunner duties with Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story).
“Been working on this for a couple years… Who’s in?” Shyamalan wrote in the caption of an Instagram post showing the script for the pilot episode.
According to the official description, the TV show will “reimagine the classic Magic 8 Ball as the centerpiece of a high-concept, character-driven supernatural drama that blends psychological intensity with cultural intrigue.”
Shyamalan’s most recent television series, Servant, ran on Apple TV+ from 2019 to 2023. Last year, he put out the films Trap, starring Josh Hartnett, and Caddo Lake. His classic thrillers, The Sixth Sense and Signs, were also recently released in 4K Ultra HD for the first time.
