It’s thrilling news for Best Medicine and Doc Martin fans!
We already know that Best Medicine is shaping up nicely and is poised to be one of FOX’s latest hits when it makes its debut.
But now, there’s a touching note that combines two universes together in an exciting way. Doc Martin star Martin Clunes will be making his debut on Best Medicine!
It’s positively thrilling when someone from an original series makes an appearance on a different iteration inspired by it, and that’s exactly what we’ll get, as FOX just shared that Clunes will step into the role of Dr. Robert Best, also known as Martin’s (Josh Charles) father!
As if Martin needs anything else, going on as he settles into this town that already has him challenged and on edge, now he must deal with the arrival of his father, as well.
And Dr. Robert Best is an accomplished, headstrong gastroenterologist whose abrasive demeanor makes Martin look practically cozy by comparison.
I guess the apple doesn’t fall that far away from the tree, right?
Interestingly, Robert has been estranged from his sister Sarah (Annie Potts) for years.
So it’s not just Martin who will be on edge about this visit, but Aunt Sarah as well.
Of course, this is Port Wenn, and one thing we already know about this delightful little town is that everyone has secrets.
Robert is no exception to this, as whenever we get past his snobby demeanor and a hardened, standoffish exterior, we’ll discover that he’s hiding a few things, too.
And whatever Robert is keeping so close to the vest has the power to disrupt Martin’s life and turn it upside down completely!
It’ll also have Martin doing something that he’s not so inclined to do: confront the past head-on.
Martin Clunes is a legendary British performer, and he’s naturally best known for playing the titular character Doc Martin on the acclaimed series, which is the inspiration behind Best Medicine.
It’s an exciting prospect to have this legendary performer guest-star as an iconic character in this American adaptation of some of his most well-known work.
Heck, it almost feels like a passing of the torch or having the man himself give the stamp of approval.
It’ll also be a delight for those who have loved the original series and want to tune into Best Medicine for this fresh new take on it.
This is the absolute best news!
For now, Clunes will likely appear in the back half of the first season in a guest-starring role.
But it sounds promising that we’ll get to spend a decent amount of time with him as this storyline unfolds!
