Taylor Sheridan is dominating Paramount+ with the sheer number of his shows airing this fall. Season 3 of Tulsa King is already underway, and Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown begins as October ends. Even though the situation looks great for fans of Taylor Sheridan, audiences might be disappointed to find that Season 3 of Lioness doesn’t have a release date yet.
There’s a good explanation for that. Lioness probably won’t arrive until 2026 as the season is still undergoing production. That’s a long time to wait. That wait might not feel as long with Sheridan’s final release of the year, which is the perfect show for Lioness fans. Season 2 of Landman, the Billy Bob Thornton Western about the struggles of oil drilling in Texas, resumes on November 16.
‘Landman’ Is Like ‘Breaking Bad’ With Oil Drills
Landman takes place in the desolate part of Texas, where drilling for oil is commonplace. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, who’s trying to profit from the industry as a Landman, which means he’s the one in charge of securing land for drilling. It’s not easy for Tommy, as he faces troubles with his oil company’s owner, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), as well as lawyers in the area. He even runs into a cartel that’s looking to get into the oil industry, making this show almost like an oil-focused Breaking Bad.
Tommy doesn’t only face drama at work. His family is all over the place. Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), shows up right when work is getting difficult for Tommy. Tommy also has to handle raising his kids, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Cooper (Jacob Lofland). Tommy keeps close to Cooper especially, employing him to do odd jobs when needed. Cooper usually works with a crew member named Armando Medina, who’s played by Michael Peña.
In Landman Season 2, Tommy will be taking on even more duties at the oil company where he works as it switches owners. Some incredible actors get big parts in the new season as well. Sam Elliott, who previously worked with Taylor Sheridan on 1883, joins the series as a regular. Andy Garcia, who appeared in the first season as the cartel boss Gallino, will have a more prominent role in Season 2. Demi Moore, who plays Monty’s wife Cami, will also play a larger part in the new season. Stefania Spampinato from Grey’s Anatomy will also have an unspecified role.
‘Landman’ Is the Perfect Show to Fit Between ‘Lioness’ Seasons
Lioness and Landman seem quite different, but fans of the former should love the latter. Lioness is more of a thriller than Landman with a plot that revolves around government operatives. Landman is more focused on business. The shows focus on protagonists who are on different sides of the law, with Lioness following people who work for the law and Landman following people who are at odds with the law.
Both shows have that classic Taylor Sheridan charm. They’re both set in desert-like regions, even though Lioness takes place in multiple settings throughout the show. They both have similar conflicts with people on the wrong side of the law, as both Lioness and Landman feature cartel antagonists. Landman and Lioness are also the two best cast Taylor Sheridan shows. Billy Bob Thornton might not be as great as Zoe Saldaña, but he’s surrounded by great actors, just like Saldaña’s surrounded by Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and more.
Landman might not be the top choice for all Taylor Sheridan fans, but they don’t have a lot of options. Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923 are all over, and the next spinoff, Y: The Marshalls, won’t come out until next year. Lioness won’t come out for a while either. Taylor Sheridan is a busy man, which means his shows should be cherished when they release. Although Sheridan has shows like Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King airing this fall, Landman is more comparable to Lioness. Hopefully, that’s enough to get excited Lioness fans watching the next season premiere.
How to Watch ‘Landman’
Lioness fans won’t even have to go far to watch Landman. The two series both stream on the same service, Paramount+. The first season of the show is already on the platform, and the second season begins soon. The first two episodes of Landman Season 2 drop on Paramount+ on November 16. New episodes will air weekly on Sundays all the way through 2026. The season has 10 episodes in total, and the finale will air on January 11, 2026.
As for Lioness, fans will have to wait a little bit longer. Season 3 of the show doesn’t have a release date yet. In fact, the show just started production in October, so it’s not very close to releasing. In the meantime, Landman‘s the show for Taylor Sheridan fans to watch.
