Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, has offered some hints as to how Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will connect. Daredevil and Spider-Man are two of the biggest New York-based heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with both red-suited heroes having live-action entries scheduled for 2026, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding how the two titles might be related. With Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin outlawing all vigilante activities in the city of New York at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, many have wondered whether that will impact the storyline for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly ahead of New York Comic-Con, Winderbaum discussed how the teams behind Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been in contact with one another, hinting at a connection between the two. While Winderbaum didn’t spill any specific story beats, he said the two stories will show different sides of New York while taking place within their shared universe:
“We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there’s coherence there. We don’t want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important. We’re in a shared universe together, but I would say just the Daredevil comic books, the Punisher comic books depicted a certain tone and an idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man‘s, but they both exist in the same universe. It’s similar. Everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we’re able to tell different stories.”
Will Spider-Man and Daredevil Meet (Again)?
Spider-Man and Daredevil have interacted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already, or at least their alter egos have. Spider-Man: No Way Home marked Charlie Cox’s return to the MCU as Matt Murdock, representing Peter Parker in his case against the United States government. Charlie Cox hasn’t been confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but fans are holding out hope. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day also featuring Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner / Hulk, that provides another potential connection for the Man Without Fear, since Matt Murdock had a brief fling with Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk in her Disney+ series, which ended with Murdock meeting the Hulk at a family barbecue.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has another significant connection to Daredevil through Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bernthal’s Punisher made his MCU debut in Daredevil Season 2 before getting his own spinoff series and later returning in Daredevil: Born Again. 2026 will be the year of The Punisher, as not only will the character appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but also will get his own Marvel Special Presentation. That makes three MCU titles in 2026 that will be connected in some way.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is expected to debut in March 2026, likely concluding in April, which is three months before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That means the potential aftershocks of Kingpin’s ban on vigilantes might be resolved by the time Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins, allowing the film to forge its own path. Yet Daredevil: Born Again has also been renewed for Season 3, which is rumored to debut on Disney+ in 2027. That means the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday might set up Daredevil: Born Again‘s third season.
