The Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen is revisiting her past on a new version of “Where Are You Christmas?” from the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in which she starred as Cindy Lou Who. The reimagined track finds the rock singer duetting with her voice as a child.
The tune starts out with Momsen’s child voice singing over a piano, and transitions into her current voice, before kicking into a full-on rock song.
“Revisiting ‘Where Are You Christmas’ 25 years later feels like coming home to a part of myself I hadn’t seen in a long time,” stated Momsen in a press release. “I was just a child when I first sang it, and I never could’ve imagined the way the song, and the film, would stay with people for so long and unknowingly shape my career path as an adult. Recording it now, with all the life I’ve lived in between, I hear it through a different lens… but the heart of it is the same. It’s about wonder, hope, and holding on to the magic — something I think we all need more than ever.”
The track, which can be streamed below, will be released as part of a six-song EP titled Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas, featuring four original holiday tunes. The EP will arrive digitally on October 31st, and in physical formats on November 14th, with pre-orders available for vinyl here and CD here.
