Sam Wills is certainly one of the voices you can’t mistake (I remember discovering him back in 2015 on Tom Misch’s “In The Midst Of It All”). As soon as the UK singer starts singing, his melodies melt your every cell.
Understandably, this is also the case with his latest, sophomore album Speak. The 12-song record, which Sam started together with Conor Albert, blurs genre lines, swinging between soul, pop, jazz, r&b, and even folk music.
Sam explains the concept behind it, “I was failing to see what I had and the things I’d achieved. I was focused on my failures and losses, fell into what felt like a mundane cycle, and was struggling to be creative. I was desperate for meaningful life progression, but it felt impossible. I think it’s a trap many people fall into, waiting for the world around you to change, rather than working on yourself and appreciating the present”.
A fav of mine is “No Pressure,” with its driving, yet smooth groove, warm guitars & honey vocals. But definitely check the full album:
