Tyler Hynes’s Hallmark Christmas Movies — Ranked!

Is it Christmas already? Not quite — but the official kickoff for Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas is just weeks away, and we’re already counting the days.

Hallmark has given us so many memorable holiday films, but few stars have captured the hearts of fans the way Tyler Hynes has.

Since his first Christmas movie in 2018, he’s become synonymous with the season. Tyler has a knack for playing the slightly salty guy who gets under the leading lady’s skin — only to reveal loyalty, warmth, and vulnerability that make him irresistible.

Tyler Hynes’s Hallmark Christmas Movies — Ranked!
(Crown Media United States LLC/Allister Foster)

Part of the magic comes from who he’s paired with. From Lacey Chabert to Bethany Joy Lenz, from Holland Roden to LeAnn Rimes, Tyler’s co-stars have helped create unforgettable holiday romances that fans revisit year after year.

It’s nearly impossible to rank his holiday films — there’s truly not a wasted frame when he’s on screen. But in the spirit of the season, here’s my personal countdown.

    • NCIS: Tony & Ziva Gets Its Sexiest Hour Yet With Season 1 Episode 7
      by Paul Dailly
    • Chicago PD Season 13 Premiere Has Scrappy Imani Coming in HOT in the Race to Reinstate Intelligence
      by Jasmine Blu
    • Chicago Fire Season 14 Premiere Brings Old Tropes and New Frustrations
      by Carissa Pavlica

I’ve included IMDb scores for context, although my ranking doesn’t always align with what other fans think. (And that’s the fun, right? We argue with love, cocoa in hand.)

    1. Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas (2022)

IMDb 7.4 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Holland Roden

    Josh Won the Big Prize
(Crown Media United States LLC/Allister Foster)

This one just hits different. Honestly, it’s one of Hallmark’s best Christmas movies ever, not just Tyler’s.

It has that Hallmark Hall of Fame gravitas. It’s emotional, tender, and quietly devastating. The romance between Tyler and Holland Roden isn’t loud, but it’s steady and soulful, woven into a story about grief and healing.

I put it first because it’s unforgettable. You remember the quiet phone calls, the way his voice softens, the almost reluctant vulnerability. It’s not “boy meets girl and suddenly snow falls in love with them” — it’s something deeper.

Why fans disagree with me: Some say it’s too heavy for a Countdown to Christmas movie, and that’s because it was part of Hallmark Mystery’s Miracle of Christmas.

Still, others argue that’s exactly why it works. On Reddit, people call it “one of the most heartfelt Hallmark Christmas movies ever made.” Fans felt seen by this one.

It’s a shame that Hallmark Mystery won’t be carrying on the Miracles of Christmas tradition. Hopefully, Countdown to Christmas will offer a movie or two with the same emotional resonance.

    2. Three Wiser Men and a Boy (2024)

IMDb 7.0 • Starring Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell & Margaret Colin

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Sequels usually wobble, but this one stands taller. Tyler’s Taylor finally gets a love interest with Caroline, and their snarky, sparky chemistry makes the movie pop. Their dance-off scene is an instant rewatch. You can tell the actors are having fun, and it pulls you right in.

Seriously, though, there is a lot of dancing in this one. The festive fun factor is amped all the way up.

I rank it above the original on this list because I like seeing Tyler in a sharper, more individual arc. He still has the brotherly ensemble moments, but the romance makes it uniquely his.

      by Jasmine Blu
    • How Wednesday Season 2 Wasted Its Biggest Villain with Shocking and Illogical Death
      by Siddhika Prajapati

Why fans disagree with me: Some think nothing beats the novelty of the first. But plenty of folks in fan groups said they laughed harder and swooned more here. Margaret Colin, as the brothers’ mom, once again ties the family story together beautifully.

    3. Three Wise Men and a Baby (2022)

IMDb 7.5 • Starring Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell & Margaret Colin

    Elves in Town Square
(Crown Media United States LLC/Bettina Strauss)

This was a moment. Hallmark fans had been begging for crossovers, and suddenly we got three of our favorite leading men — and real-life friends — playing brothers. Add Margaret Colin as their mom, and you’ve got a movie that feels both hilarious and heartfelt.

Why I put it at #3: it’s a fan’s dream, and it was the Hallmark event of 2022. It gave us family, love, chaos, and comedy in one snowy package. But between us? The sequel squeaked past because of Tyler’s romantic storyline.

Why fans disagree with me: A lot of people think this is untouchable Hallmark perfection. It became the most-watched cable movie of the year, so clearly, fans showed up and stayed for the chaos.

    4. On the 12th Date of Christmas (2020)

IMDb 7.2 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Mallory Jansen

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

A Christmas scavenger hunt app? Genius.

Aidan (Tyler) and Jennifer (Mallory Jansen) not only design a game — they practically design the perfect Hallmark Channel movie while doing it. Their banter is sharp, and the thaw from snarky co-workers to swoony partners feels earned.

I rank it high because it’s inventive, and honestly, if Hallmark ever actually built this app, we’d all download it tomorrow.

    • Why Is Oliver in Hudson Oaks on Brilliant Minds? I’ve Got a Theory!
      by Alexandria Ingham
    • Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Hits Netflix at the Perfect Time
      by Whitney Evans
    • Only One Person Could Have Called Amelia Fredericks on Brilliant Minds (but It’s Too Obvious)
      by Alexandria Ingham

Why fans disagree with me: Fans love this one too, so the “disagreement” is more about how high it should be. The IMDb score is solid, and the comments I see are full of people begging Hallmark to make the scavenger hunt real.

    5. An Unexpected Christmas (2021)

IMDb 6.9 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Bethany Joy Lenz

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Exes forced to fake their relationship is classic Hallmark fare. But when you add Bethany Joy Lenz, who has personality for days, and a Paul Campbell cowritten script full of wit, it sings.

Why it’s #5: Tyler and Bethany Joy are dynamite. Their banter is playful one minute, gut-honest the next. You can feel their history, even if you’ve only just met their characters.

Why fans disagree with me: Some say the “fake dating” trope is tired. But most fans don’t care because of the chemistry. I saw one fan post: “Hynes + Lenz = perfection.” Hard to argue with that math.

    6. Holiday Touchdown: A Chief’s Love Story (2024)

IMDb 6.4 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Hunter King

    (©2024 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Joshua Haines)

Hallmark teamed up with the NFL, and the result was more fun than I expected.

Derrick (Tyler) and Alana (Hunter King) meet amid a “Chiefs Fan of the Year” contest, and suddenly we’re mixing snowflakes with stadium vibes.

I rank it here because it’s fresh and playful. And it turned Tyler into a bona fide Chiefs fan off-screen — which fans adored. Watching him post in red-and-gold gear, actually geeking out with KC locals, made it feel bigger than just a movie.

    • Fire Country Season 4 Trailer Confirms that Death We All Abhorred, and Nothing Will Ever Be the Same
      by Denis Kimathi

Why fans disagree with me: Some don’t want football in their cocoa, fair enough. But at the Kansas City Hallmark Experience, fans cheered both the film and Tyler himself.

A lot of people said, “He’s one of the kindest actors we’ve met.” They’re not wrong, and that warmth bleeds into the movie.

    7. Winter in Vail (2020)

IMDb 7.0 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Lacey Chabert

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Okay, hear me out. I know some of you think this belongs higher. It is gorgeous. The snow, the lights, the chalet — it’s visually stunning, like a Christmas card come to life. And Tyler and Lacey? Forget it. They have chemistry to spare.

Why I put it at #7: I love it, but it doesn’t hit me emotionally the way my top five do. That said, I’ll rewatch it every December, no question. The strudel-making scene alone is worth the price of admission.

Why fans disagree with me: For many, this is Tyler’s definitive Hallmark Christmas movie. “Tyler + Lacey = magic” might as well be printed on a T-shirt.

    8. It’s Christmas, Eve (2018)

IMDb 6.6 • Starring Tyler Hynes & LeAnn Rimes

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Tyler’s first Hallmark Christmas role! He plays a music teacher, and LeAnn Rimes is the superintendent with a red pen on his program’s budget.

Why it’s lower: He hadn’t quite settled into his Hallmark groove yet. But the bones are there — Liam is principled, a little prickly, but lovable underneath.

Why fans disagree with me: Some say it deserves more credit for starting it all. Many call it “comfort cozy,” and honestly, watching Tyler at the piano with the kids is pure holiday charm.

    9. Never Been Chris’d (2023)

IMDb 5.5 • Starring Tyler Hynes & Janel Parrish

Skates are Slippery - Hallmark Channel
    (©2023 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Steven Ackerman)

A holiday redo of the high school crush you never got. Tyler plays Chris Silver, the guy Naomi (Janel Parrish) has been pining over forever.

Why I rank it ninth: It’s cute, but it doesn’t sparkle like his stronger outings. It’s the peppermint candy of his catalog — sweet but not filling.

Why fans disagree with me: Some enjoyed the nostalgia and thought the high school dance callback was adorable. But many fans shrugged and moved on.

    10. The Mistletoe Secret (2019)

IMDb 6.3 • Starring Tyler Hynes, Kellie Pickler & Patrick Duffy

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Alex Bartlett is the ghost writer behind a successful travel writer. Aria is a small-town diner owner. Holiday hijinks ensue as she is torn between the travel guru and the talent behind him.

Why it’s #10: It’s watchable but not memorable. Tyler’s charming, but the movie itself doesn’t stick the way others do.

    • Once Upon a Time Cast: Where Are They Now?
      by Laura Nowak
    • Original Power Cast: Where Are They Now?
      by Whitney Evans
    • Parenthood Cast: Where Are They Now?
      by Laura Nowak

Why fans disagree with me: This one really divides people. Some fans liked it more than I did, but many said Kellie Pickler’s performance was a miss. Tyler alone couldn’t carry it to the top.

    11. My Christmas Family Tree (2021)

IMDb 7.6 • Starring Andrew Walker, Aimee Teegarden & Tyler Hynes (cameo)

    Hallmark Media/watchinghallmark.tumblr.com

This one’s Andrew Walker’s movie, but Tyler pops up in a supporting role. It’s about a woman finding her family at Christmas, and it’s one of the most heartfelt Hallmark stories in recent years.

Why it’s here: I couldn’t leave it off — it’s too good. And Tyler and Andrew are Hallmark (and real!) family, so it feels right to include it. It’s a Christmas movie, and Tyler appears, so it’s on the list.

Why fans disagree with me: Many may argue that this should be higher because the story is so strong. And they’re right! But since Tyle’s role is a cameo, it’s the natural “bottom scapegoat.”

If we were ranking Andrew Walker movies (and we will!)? This would soar.

    (Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

    And There You Have It!

See? We did it. We ranked Tyler Hynes’s Hallmark Christmas movies, and I’m sure at least half of you disagree with me already. That’s the joy of fandom: we compare notes, argue with love, and rewatch anyway.

No matter where you place them, Tyler has one of the strongest holiday résumés on Hallmark.
