Jimmy Fallon isn’t going to Fall-on his sword for democracy, telling CNBC that The Tonight Show has “never really been political.”
“We hit both sides equally, and we try to make everybody laugh, and that’s really the way our show works,” Fallon said on Squawk on the Street. “Our monologues are kind of the same that we’ve been doing since Johnny Carson was hosting The Tonight Show. So really, I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny.”
He added, “I have great writers. And we’re just trying to make the best show we possibly can and entertain everybody.”
Fallon’s “both sides” schtick isn’t quite a surprise, as he appeared on CNBC to hawk his new reality show On Brand. On the show, [deep sigh] marketers compete to pitch advertising campaigns for companies like Dunkin’, Southwest Airlines, and Captain Morgan. If the whole show sounds like an hour-long commercial dressed up with reality TV drama and the world’s least-opinionated host, then congratulations, you might have what it takes to compete in On Brand.
