The White Home has responded to the backlash over Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle promoting marketing campaign, calling it “warped” and “moronic.”
“[This is] cancel tradition run amok,” White Home communications director Steven Cheung tweeted on Wednesday. “This warped, moronic, and dense liberal pondering is a giant purpose why People voted the best way they did in 2024. They’re uninterested in this bullshit.”
Because the marketing campaign, titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Nice [American Eagle] Denims,” was launched earlier this month, the Euphoria actress and the clothes firm have confronted some pushback over the advert’s play on phrases, which some noticed as selling eugenics and a Eurocentric magnificence commonplace.

The advert’s most viral clip includes a voiceover from Sweeney, as she lies supine in American Eagle denim. “Genes are handed down from dad and mom to offspring, usually figuring out traits like hair shade, persona, and even eye shade,” she narrates. “My denims are blue.” One other clip reveals Sweeney saying, “My physique’s composition is set by my denims/genes,” whereas the digicam slowly pans down her torso.
In response, American Eagle Chief Advertising Officer Craig Brommers instructed media commerce publications that the marketing campaign’s “intelligent, even provocative language” was “positively going to push buttons.” Others have in contrast the marketing campaign to Calvin Klein advertisements from the ’80s that includes a 15-year-old Brooke Shields studying an innuendo-laced script.
Regardless of the advert’s controversy, it boosted American Eagle’s inventory by over 15%, with essentially the most viral clip garnering over 80 million views as of July thirtieth.
