High Gun: Maverick author and producer Christopher McQuarrie has revealed the “framework” for the High Gun 3 story has been set, describing its standing as “already within the bag.”
“I already know what [the story] is,” the Mission: Unimaginable — The Closing Reckoning director mentioned about cracking the script on Josh Horowitz’s Blissful Unhappy Confused podcast. “It wasn’t laborious. I believed it might be, and that’s a very good place to go from, is you stroll into the room going, ‘Come on, what are we going to do?’ [Co-writer] Ehren Kruger pitched one thing, and I went, ‘Mhm, really,’ and we had one dialog about it, and the framework is there. So, no, it’s not laborious to crack. The reality of the matter is, none of those are laborious to crack.”
He continued, “It’s as you begin to execute it, and as you begin to interrogate it, as you begin [to think] why these films are made the way in which they’re: It’s not the motion, it’s not even the extent of or depth of or the scope and scale of the motion [or] the engineering across the motion, it’s none of these issues — it’s the emotion.”
In January 2024, High Gun 3 was reported to be in growth, with Tom Cruise anticipated to reunite with High Gun: Maverick co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. Maverick director Joseph Kosinski was additionally reported to be on board as a producer and potential director.
