Just one episode stays in HBO’s Lanterns, and the penultimate episode did a unbelievable job establishing what seems like an thrilling finale. As an alternative of that includes quite a lot of motion and establishing the finale to wrap up many storylines, “The Jordan Boys Legacy” is essentially character-centric and delves into Hal Jordan’s backstory because of the arrival of a backup of Hal’s consciousness saved in his Lantern ring, referred to as the Halogram.
Although episode seven is character-centric, it nonetheless raises bigger questions. Not nearly how the storyline will wrap up, however in regards to the wider Inexperienced Lantern mythology and doubtlessly the way forward for the DCU. Listed below are the solutions to the most important questions from ‘Lanterns‘ Episode Seven, “The Jordan Boys Legacy.”
How Martin Jordan’s Demise Differs within the Comics
Because the Inexperienced Lantern: Emerald Daybreak storyline, DC Comics has established that Hal Jordan’s father, Martin, died in a aircraft crash. This seemed to be the origin story that Lanterns was sticking to, because the collection premiere establishes via a information broadcast that Hal watched his father, Martin Jordan, die in a aircraft crash within the mid Seventies. “The Jordan Boys Legacy” provides a brand new, tragic wrinkle to Martin Jordan’s loss of life.
The Halogram finally reveals that Jordan’s father took his personal life and used the aircraft he was piloting to do it, since everybody would suppose it was an accident. This variation basically alters Hal Jordan’s characterization and distinguishes him from fellow DC heroes like Bruce Wayne and The Flash, who had their dad and mom die by the hands of one other particular person, and even Superman, whose individuals died in planet-wide destruction. Whereas the primary episode started with Hal Jordan saying he has no worry as a result of there may be nothing scarier than a toddler dropping their father, this episode provides new context to that when the Halogram says, “I’m not fearless as a result of I’m courageous. I’m fearless as a result of I’m damaged.”

Martin mentions his father died for him after Hal’s grandfather went off to battle in “the warfare.” It’s a Jordan household legacy, however Hal is not allowed to see it till after his father dies, which he tragically assures Hal will not be “for a very long time.” The Halogram reveals that Martin Jordan’s secure had “money and coin”, and in addition his suicide be aware. Hal explains that the be aware detailed the ache Hal’s father felt his entire life saying:
“My previous man, he was satisfied we’d be higher off with out him. Stated he had that ache his entire life. Stated it was getting worse. He couldn’t disguise it. Couldn’t bear to allow us to see it. Couldn’t bear to allow us to see him.”
The Halogram additionally explains that Hal’s grandfather left the same be aware in his secure, saying that “He had the identical ache, handed down technology to technology, father to son. They referred to as it the Jordan Boys Legacy.”
Who Is the Squirrel Lantern That Has Been Referenced Twice?
That is the second time that Lanterns has had Hal Jordan reference a Inexperienced Lantern who’s a squirrel. This references Ch’p, created by author Paul Kupperberg and artist Don Newton, who debuted in Inexperienced Lantern #148 in January 1982. Ch’p is not truly a squirrel, however a member of the H’lvenite species that occurs to resemble Earth squirrels. Although Ch’p hasn’t appeared on display but, hopefully, as Lanterns takes additional steps into the DCU, this fan-favorite character makes his live-action debut.
What Is Mogo?
The Halogram is ready to catch John Stewart in his lie about Jordan’s funeral by asking if “Mogo confirmed up”, to which John Stewart says sure just for the Halogram to disclose that Mogo is “a planet.” Mogo is certainly a sentient planet Inexperienced Lantern created by author Alan Moore and author Dave Gibbons. Mogo’s first look was in Could 1985’s Inexperienced Lantern vol. 2 #188, which was titled “Mogo Would not Socialize”, which itself was referenced in episode 2 “Belief Fall” as Hal Jordan’s password to get into his secure. It is becoming that Mogo is referenced once more, given the episode’s give attention to Hal Jordan’s secure.
What Was in Hal’s Protected and Why?
After the Halogram makes use of his voice to unlock John Stewart’s secure, it reveals two baggage. One is a backpack with snacks, water, a poncho, and a gun. The opposite is a paper grocery bag containing an Einstein-Rosen bridge, aka a transportable wormhole, that has been seen in Lanterns utilized by aliens such because the Guardians of the Universe and the Manhunter.
The wormhole permits John Stewart to journey to a different planet in a special part of the galaxy. In the meantime, the backpack’s contents are supposed to maintain Jordan alive, particularly the poncho, which he wears to guard himself from rain contaminated with a worry gasoline that creates lethal hallucinations.

Given the varied Batman references in Lanterns, from Gotham Metropolis name-drops to the Inexperienced Lantern sign being a duplicate of the Bat-signal, it’s pure to imagine a worry gasoline can be linked to the villain Scarecrow.
Whereas Dr. Jonathan Crane would possibly derive his worry gasoline from Manhunter expertise, this weapon in Lanterns does not appear to be establishing the DCU’s Batman. As an alternative, it has ties to the broader Inexperienced Lantern mythology, laying the muse for the fear-based weapons utilized by Inexperienced Lantern villain, Sinestro.
