One of Margot Robbie’s most insane R-rated films (in fact, arguably the most insane R-rated films ever) is now streaming for free. It’s safe to say that Robbie is a Hollywood powerhouse, thanks to her leading role in Barbie. But the actress has always picked great projects, starring in everything from The Suicide Squad to Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, and many underrated movies like Babylon, Focus, and Terminal. But her breakout role undoubtedly came alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s fan-favorite The Wolf of Wall Street. For those who have never seen the bonkers R-rated hit, or those who are looking for another excuse to watch it, it’s now streaming for free!
The Wolf of Wall Street is now streaming on Tubi. The film was added to the free streaming platform on December 1. Directed by Martin Scorsese (otherwise known as the “Absolute Cinema Man”), The Wolf of Wall Street is one of the craziest biopics ever made. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, a young Wall Street broker who loses his job on the Black Monday crash in 1987. After finding a new job at a small firm, he sees an opportunity to make a lot of money. The only problem… It’s not exactly legal. The Wolf of Wall Street is a modern rendition of Martin Scorsese’s iconic ‘quick rise to the top, followed by a sudden downfall’ story structure that fans know and love. The official synopsis reads:
“In 1987, Jordan Belfort takes an entry-level job at a Wall Street brokerage firm. By the early 1990s, while still in his 20s, Belfort founds his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. Together with his trusted lieutenant and a merry band of brokers, Belfort makes a huge fortune by defrauding wealthy investors out of millions. However, while Belfort and his cronies partake in a hedonistic brew of sex, drugs and thrills, the SEC and the FBI close in on his empire of excess.”
Alongside DiCaprio and Robbie, the film stars a who’s who of great actors, including Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Cristin Milioti, P.J. Byrne, and Kenneth Choi, among many more. The film is one of Scorsese’s most beloved films (at least, from his modern filmography), with an 8.2 rating on IMDb. It was also nominated for five Oscars in 2014.
The Crazy True Story of ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
As it’s a biopic, it should come as little surprise that The Wolf of Wall Street is based on a true story. The real Jordan Belfort even makes a cameo at the end of the film. The movie is based on Belfort’s memoir of the same name, and, while the film gets a lot of things right, there’s one surprising change it makes to the true story.
The Wolf of Wall Street is a movie that’s all about excess. Excessive drugs, excessive wealth, excessive sex, and even excessive excess are part of the film’s identity. It might be surprising, then, to learn that the film is actually tame in comparison to the true story. The stories of the parties, drug taking, and other illicit activities were significantly worse in real life and in the book.
